Free Music Review: Not as good as the first two...
Hit: 4 Stars

When music companies release CD series, you often have to wonder how long they think they will last. When a CD is successful, music producers must have an "Aha!" moment and realize that they have a formula to create something that is well liked. So how it was for the Disneymania series. Please notice that I said "was." Unfortunately for Disney Records, listeners are beginning to catch up with the formula they keep recycling to produce these "Mania" albums.

I am a huge Disney purist and when I had heard of the first Mania album I was shaking in my shoes. How would Disney Records be able to present such Disney classics with contemporary artists? Why, they get conemporary artists with strong vocals! Usher's rendition of "You'll be in My Heart" is unarguably beautiful and Jessica Simpson's take on "Part of Your World" is emotionally-charged and absolutely breathtaking (but that was when her voice was still gospel-tinged and soulful, not now that it is breathy and whiny, but that's a different story). And the group of artists were so eclectic, it was great to listen to one track that was R&B-tinged and the next one was more electronic pop; its what great music listening is all about!

But three years later with the emegence of Disneymania 3, Disney Records found themselves in a rut, under false belief that what they're producing is equally satisfying as the first two "Mania" albums. A good majority of the tracks are sung by actors who work for Disney Channel; and as surprising as it may sound, tweeny Disney Channel and DISNEY are not alike. THEY ARE TWO SEPERATE ENTITIES; it was Disney movies and their beautiful musical scores and songs that have built the foundation of this country's historical pop-culture, not Disney Channel. So then WHY is every other sung by someone who ACTS on the Disney Channel??

To further explain, as much as I love Raven-Symone I am growing weary of seeing her on these Mania albums. Both she and Christy Carlson Romano are wonderful actresses with great comedic timing as we see on "Even Stevens" and "That's So Raven;" and Romano's voice is fairly good, but for such an emotionally-charged song as "Colors of the Wind" a stronger voice is desperately needed. And if anyone watched Tarzan and experienced the remarkable music of Mr. Phil Collins knows that "Strangers Like Me" is a treasure. But as much as I admire Everlife's effort, they just don't grasp the emotion of the song. And a Mania album would not be complete without a punk-pop rendition of a song, fulfilled here by Bowling for Soup and Jump5, which are actually quite enjoyable. But the joy is quickly snatched away by the absurdity of Fan_3's Rapmania Mix of "It's a Small World." And don't even get me started on Skye Sweetnam's butchering "Part of Your World!"

Ths smartest move that Disney Records made was (believe it or not) was placing American Idol veterans on the album. "Proud of Your Boy" is not the most well-known Disney song but why would anyone care; combine the gentle sweetness of Clay Aiken's voice with heartfelt lyrics and you've got not a good song, but a GREAT one!!! And even though Kimberly Locke was overshadowed by Aiken and first-palce winner Ruben Studdard, the smoothness and sleekness of her voice is undeniable and her take on "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes," is absolutely lovely (although Daniel Bedingfield's version is just as beautiful).

Wait a miunte...I lied. Not all the Disney Channel actors on the Mania albums get ony my nerves. Lalaine's "Cruella De Vil" is quite a gem; and Jesse McCartney is on the Mania series for a second time with "When You Wish Upon A Star" which is such a treat to listen to, but to really experience the true fullness and sweetness of his voice, one should listen to "The Second Star to the Right" on Disneymania 2.

Okay, okay...I've said too much. The truth of the matter is that Disneymania 3 isn't all THAT bad, but it could have been so much better! Instead of recycling the same singers, why not bring vocalists from our parents' generation (who believe it or not were the first REAL Disney generation) like B.B. King, Nancy Wilson or Diana Krall? (Could you imagine Diana Krall singing "He's A Tramp"??? WOW!!)

As much as I love Disney and its music, I'm afraid Disney Records has become too comfortable in recycling: using the same artists and using the same songs. But if this is where Disneymania 4 and 5 is going, I'm not coming along for the ride.

Free Music Review: Addicted for Mania? Oh yeah, I really am!!!
Hit: 4 Stars

If you have second thoughts on buying the disc, say no more. This one is really a keeper and you'll cherish this in your CD collection for years to come.

Unlike what people think, Disneymania 3 has really mature and enjoyable music unlike other people saying that it's so bubblegum-pop and childish. Some stars who were rock-influenced actually contributed to this fun-fuled CD. To kinow why I like it, read my one-by-one song review:

1. Under The Sea / Raven-Symone - <3/5> Honestly, Raven tried so much to make this song sound reggae-ish although it's still fun. She definitely sounded better on Mania 2. Don't worry Raven, you don't need to overdo it. We love just the way you are!

2. Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride / Jump5 - <4/5> Is this Jump5? Can't believe it! They have really grown with their music. Making this fun Lilo & Stitch song into a rockin' Disneymania tune is a wise move.

3. A Whole New World / Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson - <2/5> I'm not really a fan of ballads butI can still take this. On the bad side, they sticked with the original version which worked years back (BUT NOT THIS TIME!). Anyway, it's really sweet that you could feel their love.

4. It's A Small World (RapMania Remix!) / Fan _3 - <1/5> The only thing I like about this song is the beats. The rest - GARBAGE! Why didn't just this so-called "rapper" remade the track insted of remixing it which is terrible! It's horrible beyond words!!!

5. The Bare Necessities / Bowling for Soup - <2/5> This song actually had a cool makeover! I love it especially the guitar intro! But later on the song, I was tuned out because of the blabbing of the lead vocals. Wasted!!!

6. I Won't say (I'm In Love) / The Cheetah Girls - <5/5> My favorite! When I thought I'm gonna be stuck with "Cinderella", I was wrong. This comeback definitely made me asking more material from them! Plus, I actually thought it is their original 'cause it sounds unique!

7. Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah / Aly & A.J. - <5/5> I hated the remake by Stevie Brock on Mania 2, but I loved it here! These girls know how to get the party started. Check them out also on their debut, "Into the Rush", and you're definitely gonna like it!!!

8. Kiss the Girl / Vitamin C - <2/5> She also tried the same formula as Raven, but this time it didn't work for her. The beats were good, but most likely you're gonna skip this one in your CD player.

9. Part of Your World / Skye Sweetnam - <4/5> This song rocks big time! I hated it before but the fast rendition is really catchy and goes down my list of favorites.

10. Colors of the Wind / Christy Carlson Romano - <3/5> This track is okay. The vocals are weak, but Christy did it nice and slowly. It's better especially for relaxing yourself.

11. Proud of Your Boy / Clay Aiken - <0/5> I just can't say it. It's ---ugh---, I just don't wanna talk about it.

12. Strangers Like Me / Everlife - <4/5> I've never heard of them until in this album. I discovered that they're great actually. They really rock and doing this song is a great idea! More power!!!

13. A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes / Kimberley Locke - <4/5> Unlike Clay, this Idol didn't let me down! It was really heart-warming and really powerful. One of the album's finest ones!

14. Cruella de Vil / Lalaine - <5/5> At first, you'll find it awkward, but over and over again you'll be dancin' to it! That's what happened to me. Now, next to track #6, this is my 2nd highest track to rate and my recommended song to listen to.

15. When You Wish Upon A Star / Jesse McCartney - <2/5> Can you say boring? This track is like that precisely. I can listen to that during my sleep and guess what... I did sleep! Hah!

OVERALL: I give it an A-. Never mind the bad apples, 'cause someday in your collection, it will really shine and is really, once again, a keeper. Buy it!

Free Music Review: It's okay, Jump5 and Clay make it worth listening to
Hit: 4 Stars

If there weren't a certain two or three tracks on this CD, believe me, I wouldn't listen to it as often as I do. But there are enough good things to overcome the bad.
Track-by-track:
1. Under The Sea-Raven Symone, I like this song; it's upbeat and catchy and Raven has a good voice. But it's not one I could listen to all day. 4/5
2. Hawaiin Roller Coaster Ride-Jump5, I really like this song, although sometimes Brittany has a squeaky voice. Really really catchy! 5/5
3. A Whole New World-Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, this song is a little boring and their voices are nothin special. Just another remake. 2/5
4. It's a Small World (RapMania! Mix)-Fan_3, this song is a little weird, but I like it anyway. 4/5
5. The Bare Necessities-Bowling for Soup, a little too rock but it's okay. 3/5
6. I Won't Say (I'm in Love)-The Cheetah Girls, it's ok, a little too fluffy-pop style for me though. 3/5
7. Zip-a-dee-doo-dah-Aly and AJ, this song is fine, but I couldn't listen to it everyday. 2/5
8. Kiss the Girl-Vitamin C, actually, I've never actually listened to the whole thing, but from what I've heard, it's okay. 3/5
9. Part of your World-Skye Sweetnam, ugh, this girl cannot sing at all. She growls and whines her way through.
10. Colors of the Wind-Christy Carlson Romano, it's pretty, but her voice is a little flat. 4/5
11. Proud of Your Boy-CLAY AIKEN, one of the reasons I listen to this CD so much. His vocals are fantastic and he outshines everyone else. He didn't have to "pump" it up to make it good. I don't think anyone else could have done this so well. 1,000/5
12. Strangers Like Me-Everlife, they have good voices, and the song is good. 5/5
13. A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes-Kimberley Locke, her voice is so good, but otherwise the song is a little dull. 4/5
14. Cruella De Vil-Lalaine, singer's voice is okay, though I've never heard of her. 3/5
15. When You Wish Upon A Star-Jesse McCartney, UGH, i cannot stand this guy. He sings like he has an ego the size of California, but maybe he doesn't really. He cannot sing at all; the arrangement makes him sound like he's off-key half the time. Clay Aiken makes him look like a wimp. 0/5

Free Music Review: A good album
Hit: 4 Stars

Many of the songs are fantastic, some are pretty good, a couple are just okay, the cd has a couple of weak spots, but overall it is a good album.
Best songs
- Won't say I'm in love - I LOVE this song! It is my absolute favorite next to...
- A dream is a wish your heart makes- PERFECTION! sheer perfection, Kimberly does an amazing job on this song. I am a huge fan of hers. and this song is just beautiful.
- zip-a-dee-do-dah- Loved it, very catchy and upbeat.
- When you wish upon a star- a beautiful rendition
-Strangers like me- my other favorite. An amazing song that even got some radio airplay.
-Hawaiian Roller Coaster ride- it's a very catchy song. Jump5 did a good rendition
-cruella De vil- for some reason, i just enjoy listening to this one. Lalaine does a great job with it.
-colors of the wind- One of the best renditions I've heard. I actually perfer it over the original.

Songs that were pretty good
- a whole new world- this song is very sweet and romantic, and it's an amazing rendition. But it's just a bit too corny for my taste. (plus it makes me cry now that nick and jessica have split up)
- part of your world- this song is great but for some reason, i don't listen to it that much. It's not a personal favorite of mine, but Skye still does an awesome job on it.
-it's a small world- I really like Fan3 and she does a good job on this song.
-bare necessities- it's a great and catchy rendition, but not my favorite.

Songs that were just okay
-proud of your boy- This song was very nicely done, but I'm not really much of a clay aikin fan. I don't really listen to it all that much. It's still a good song though.
-kiss the girl- Vitamin C is a good artist but kind of been-and-gone if you ask me, this rendition is alright, but I don't really enjoy it that much. I listen to it on occaision.

Overall it's a good cd. You most certainly won't regret it if you buy it, but only if you are a disney fan.

Free Music Review: Disneymania 3 is good, but...
Hit: 4 Stars

I have the other two Disneymania CDs, and I was excited to see that DISNEYMANIA 3 was going to be released. It's a good CD, but it doesn't live up to the other two.

Highlights of DISNEYMANIA 3 are:
*Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride (Jump5) - Anything by Jump5 is good, even a somewhat unknown song from Lilo and Stitch. One of my favorites on the CD, it's just fun to listen to and dance to.
*A Whole New World (Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson) - A Whole New World is one of my favorite songs, and I was a little bit doubtful of how this one would be. The song isn't changed very much, and I think the vocals are great (normally, I don't really like Jessica Simpson).
*Zip A Dee Doo Dah (Aly and AJ) - If you have the Disney Channel, you've seen these two sisters music video for "Do You Believe in Magic?" Aly (who was seen in Disney's Now You See It...and Phil of the Future) has a good voice, unlike most Disney Channel singers. Her younger sister is a good singer too, and this is my favorite song on DISNEYMANIA 3.
*When You Wish Upon A Star (Jesse McCartney) - I'm a huge fan of Jesse McCartney, so this song is kind of the main reason I bought the CD. It's not as good as I had hoped, it's really slow and it kind of drags on, but it isn't bad.

My main complaint with DISNEYMANIA 3 is the fact that they're repeating songs. "When You Wish Upon A Star," "Under the Sea," and "Part of Your World" have all been on previous Disneymania CDs. DISNEYMANIA 3 is a great buy for kids under the age of 10, but I enjoy it at 15. Regardless, this CD is a step above the Kidz Bop series, and I'd recommend it.

Overall grade - B
