Free Music Review: Fly
Hit: 5 Stars

Dixie Chicks, composed of blonde bombshells Natalie Maines, Martie Seidel, and Emily Robinson have enormous talent which they display not only through outstanding vocals, but through instruments as well. Martie excels on the fiddle and the viola, while Emily provides incredible accompaniement on the banjo and the acoustic guitar. On their second cd, Fly, the Dixie Chicks show continuing talent and dedication. The three have hurdled boudaries and defied limits on their new album. Such songs as "Goodbye Earl" and "Sin Wagon" have aroused much controversy, yet the Chicks stand firm alongside their music. The unique variation of songs include a combination of lyrics that spur emotions from laughter to tears. Lyrics from Fly are heartfelt and meaningful. The Dixie Chicks are an amazing group of women that abound in talent and continually better the world of country music.

Free Music Review: Country Music Soars with the best new sound in years
Hit: 5 Stars

The Dixie Chicks have broken down many boarders with their new breed of music with the smashing success of their last two albums. Fly is a new concept in the tradition of country music. Not only do you find fiddles, bangos and steel guitars in toe-tapping unison, but you find them with some fire, gut wrenching vocals from the talented Natalie Maines. The background behind this album with Fiddler Martie Seidel writing "Cowboy Take me Away" for her younger sister and bandmate Emily Robinson, gives the album lots of sentiment and entertainment. "Sin Wagon" combines the sisters talents on their instruments and funny vocals that all of us have wanted to express, but now have an anthem for "mattress dancing." I love the album and suggest it to anyone who wants a fresh sound and a cd they can play all the way through with getting tired of the sound.

Free Music Review: How do you top perfection?
Hit: 5 Stars

I gotta admit, I was a skeptic. I didn't think the Chicks could top their previous effort, "Wide Open Spaces." How can you top perfection, after all? But after listening to "Fly" a couple times, I will say this: it is every single bit as good as "Spaces," if not better. Where else can you get a genuine country hoe-down atmosphere, a gutsy larynx-ripping belter of a lead singer, along with flame-fingered picking and a sassy sensibility? Not many places. But sure as heck one of those places is right here, on "Fly." For anyone who (even remotely) enjoyed "Wide Open Spaces" and all those country-lovers who have yet to discover these Chicks (where have YOU been?), snap this one up. It is solid country gold. You won't be disappointed. Anyone want to make bets that they can't do it a third time around? I'll take that bet.

Free Music Review: great followup
Hit: 5 Stars

Almost as soon as this album first came out, I knew I had to pick it up. The songs were already all over the radio stations. My faves are "Cowboy Take Me Away" and "Goodbye Earl." These girls are extremely talented. Every time I hear a Chick song on the radio, I turn it up. Some of the reviewers for this album say this album is fun, especially the Earl song. One reviewer even stated that children shouldn't listen to this song because it would give them ideas. Yeah...it would. That domestic violence is an awful thing. That's what this song is really about. Revenge isn't that great either, but let's look at the real picture. Two best friends, one gets abused, the other rushes to help. This is a serious message that the Chicks tackled. I think this album is a great followup to the Wide Open Spaces album. I eagerly await their next release.

Free Music Review: Excellent follow up from the Chicks
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great sophmore effort. This album is a bit harder and edgier than the first one, and the Chicks pull it off well. Country with a broader appeal. Good tunes are many:

Ready to Run

If I Fall - great faster number with cool scraping fiddles

Earl - a great rhythm and lyrics. Is about a woman and her friend "disposing" of a violent brute of a husband. Of course the song does not advocate premeditated murder. Get a grip. It's just a revenge fantasy

Hello Mr. Heartache - a good traditional-flavored number

Sin Wagon - fast, bluegrassy tune. Funny lyrics like "praise the Lord and pass the ammunition" and "mattress dancing"

Some Days You Gotta Dance - dancy number, like its lyrics and title

Hole in My Head - heavy, grinding instrumentation. Cool effect.
