Free Music Notes for HomeFree Music Review: "Home" was worth waiting for...it'll be Amazon#1 in sales... Hit: 5 Stars
for quite some time, is my prediction.Despite going up against tough competition from rockers Bruce Springsteen and the inimitable Bon Jovi, the Chicks will Rule (note: see belt buckle on the CD design!) Amazon in sales. All you have to do is go to a Chicks concert to really see the depth and breadth of their popularity --- you'll see country fans, middle aged women, lots of guys without gals, adolescent country gals, young children. The Chicks have "all walks of life" appeal. On "Home" they did it their way. The sound is Austin & the tunes are a mix of covers from some of their favorites (Little Feat, Stevie Nicks, Patty Griffin) and some of their original music. Darrell Scott helps them score big with the first release, the toe-tappin' "Long Time Gone", but it was their version of "Landslide" (some say Stevie Nicks' finest) that had me doing my first multiple replay after listening to all the sounds once. Their bluegrass bent, with just enough of Martie's fiddle and some amazing banjo from sister Emily, shines through in the theme of their collection. Maines' voice is still surreal and nowhere does it soar more powerfully or poignantly than a Patty Griffin favorite "Truth No. 2"...
"Swing me way down south > Sing me something brave from your mouth > And I'll bring you > Pearls of water on my hips...." Included are some gems: a Robison instumental, with talented strings on mandolin, bass and guitar (Lil' Jack Slade"), a lullaby ("Godspeed") and the lonely invocation of "A Home". There's only one song, "White Trash Wedding", this CD's comic song that did not play well from me. The rest are pearls. Pearls from the Chicks. Shedaisy, who?
Truly a fine undertaking; give as a gift, buy for yourself and those you love, go "Home", enjoy!!
Free Music Review: Dixie Chicks bring it on "Home" Hit: 5 Stars
The year of 2002 brought the return of the Dixie Chicks with their third studio album, "Home". This highly anticipated album brought a lot of baggage along, with the lawsuits between the Chicks and Sony Music, and the possibility the Chicks may not have a record label to release their music. Fortunately, the two sides worked out their differences, and the Chicks (Natalie Maines, Emily Robison, and Martie Maguire) have presented to us one of the best albums of this decade."Home" truly displays the talent of these three women, in respects to producing, writing, and performing. The harmonies the three bring to this album only reinforces the emotions held in every song. Everytime I listen to this album I am drawn into the melodies of each song, and am impressed at how well the Dixie Chicks have continued to evolve on each album. The highlights of this album are evident in "Travelin' Soldier", "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)", and "Top of the World". These three songs alone make the listener focus intensely on the lyrics, the harmonies, and the melodies, that the listener is left to feel heartbreak after each one. However, the heartbreak the listener feels is so distinct from each song, and the Chicks make you feel that heartbreak moreso with their commanding vocals. It is extremely rare for artists to top their previous album efforts. The Dixie Chicks have so far accomplished this task twice (the first time with "Fly", and now with "Home"). This album is not only for die-hard fans of the Dixie Chicks; this is a must-own album for anyone who appreciates the hard work that is put into an album from any artist or band. "Home", as I mentioned previously, is one of the best albums of this decade. The Dixie Chicks have once again proven they are a driving force in the industry, and will continue to be in the future.
Free Music Review: Feels Like Home Hit: 5 Stars
I am not a country fan, as a black man in the inner city country CD's are the last youd expect to find but in my 330+ collection of CD's you find (2) Shania Twain Faith Hill Leann Womack and the Dixie Chicks. Home. If you pull this CD off the shelf youll notice the disc is missing. It's because I actually travel with this one. This is the one of the few disc I own I can listen to from top to bottom. This is absolutely amazing yet simple. Heartfelt yet Enjoyable. It starts with Long Time Gone which has infectious vocals and great lyrics. Landslide though is the charmer here. On a personal note this song has allowed me to reflect on a lot of personal relationships and friendships. Awesome Awesome Awesome and doesn't matter if its the live version the album version or the Sheryl Crow remix . I listen to this song a lot on Sundays or when i'm sad or reflecting and ready to work on my novel. This song is picture perfect and they are to be commended for it. Traveling Soldier is an awesome song that tells a story and as the Dixie Chicks narrate it I swear i can close my eyes and visualize it like a movie. I Believe in Love is perfect perfect perfect perfect One of my favorites on the album definitely. More love is great. Godspeed is awesome and i let that song rock me to sleep many nights. Top of the World is a great song (i hate to sound like a broken record but all of teh acoustic slow songs are great). This album minus the country sounds very Jewel (Acoustic)/Sheryl Crow very very very very pleased and surprised once i got it after seeing the video for Landslide. This CD is so awesome I've scratched it and need a new one. I've also since purchased the Live CD Top of The World Need I say more
Free Music Review: Bought The Chicks HOME Today. Hit: 5 Stars
Dixie Chicks back again with a new album, an album after 3 years from their previous FLY. Its their new album after their dispute wit SONY had been settled. The album starts off wit Long Time Gone, a fast and catchy song wit the good vocal of Natalie. Next up is a Stevie Nicks classic, LANDSLIDE, i thinks that Dixie Chick version is betta than Stevie's version. Track 3 is probably the best song on the album, a bruce robison remake of his TRAVELIN' SOLDIER. Every Dixie Chicks fan should add this song to their dixie chicks all time fav songs. Truth No.2 is kinda of an average bluegrass track but after that is the funky White Trash Wedding. The song liven the album and make it fun to listen to. A Home, More Love and I Believe In Love in my opinion should be joined together as a song. The 3 songs flow in a manner that it fit so well that I'm unable to notice that they are separate track. Tortured, Tangled Hearts is another nice song that sound kinda a rhymes. Lil' Jack Slade is a instrumental track, it features emily banjo and martie fiddle, kinda a interlude to a album. Next up is Godspeed (Sweet Dreams), Natalie playin the guitar here and her vocal flow with the music, kinda a song that you listen everynight before you sleep. And finally is the last track written by Patty Griffin, Top Of The World. Martie plays the viola here and it make it even betta, Natalie voice start off slow and soft and it burst into the climax at the end, a very good masterpiece. Overall, this album is kinda betta then their previous album, Wide Open Space and FLY. Home features a more bluegrass version of Dixie Chicks. Buy The Chicks HOME Today and you won't regret buyin it. Its a album that will last for a long time before it is, LONG TIME GONE..
Free Music Review: This Is Home Hit: 5 Stars
After long legal battles and speculation, the Dixie Chicks are back with one of their best efforts yet, HOME. The album has a more earthy feel to it, lending its sounds to bluegrass and folk. By now everyone should know the first single "Long Time Gone", an uptempo number that sets a pace for the album. The album continues with their second single, their cover of Stevie Nicks "Landslide", a beautiful song with goregeous vocals and instrumentation, like the rest of the album. HOME features less percussion and more emphasis on instruments and harmony vocals, a wonderful sound. Their rendition of "Travelin Soldier" is nothing short of amazing. They recorded two Patty Griffin songs for this project, "Truth No 2" and "Top of the World", good renditions. Perhaps my favorite track is the title track "A Home" about broken home life and wondering what life would have been like if it was a home, beautiful song. We see more tenderness from the Chicks on "More Love", a midtempo number that relents more love is needed for a relationship to strive, and "I Believe In Love", a beautiful ballad reminiscent of Dolly Parton. Emmylou Harris offers her wonderful harmony vocals on their rendition of Radney Foster's "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)". For the fans of uptempo fare there's the bluegrass tinged "White Trash Wedding", the instrumental "Lil' Jack Slade" and "Tortured Tangled Hearts". If you're expecting anything like their past music, you won't find it here. There is no "Goodbye Earl", "There's Your Trouble", or "Ready To Run", but the music is wonderful and its good to have the Dixie Chicks back!
