Free Music Review: You may already own this recording....
Hit: 4 Stars

Awesome sound - I mean this is the kind of crisp, sharp production you always wanted from a Dokken recording. The songs are tight, the melody and the muscle are there and everyone is at the top of their game. Don, Mick, George...wait. That's not George though is it - though if I'd fallen asleep in 1988 listening to Back for the Attack and woken up listening to lightning strikes again I'd be hard pressed to spot the transition. It's actually possible to sing "Stop fighting Love" to "Heart to stone" - even the guitar breaks are essentially the same. I guess I wouldnt have an issue even with that - but listen to Lynch soloing in "All I want" from the Wicked Sensation Lynch mob album and then play Levin's solo in "Standing on the outside" - all just a wee bit erm.....identical.
I'm really not a hater - I love this album as my 4 star rating indicates - its just SO firmly driven by a body of work from 15 to 20 years ago that if you're a big enough fan to seek this out and buy it, you may be smitten by more than just an inkling that you already paid for it once.

I guess its just a kind of inflation....

Free Music Review: "Classic" Dokken Sound
Hit: 4 Stars

Update 12-12-08: After listening to this CD off and on for several months, I wish I could change my rating from 4 to 5 stars. I liked it at first, but it has really grown on me and I am now fully starting to appreciate the effort that went into this CD. If you are locked-in to the old lineup as a reference point, then it really makes it hard to be open-minded to this new effort.

Definitely a return to the 80s with "classic" Dokken melodic metal. This is by far John Levin's best effort on guitar. Sure he is imitating George's style - but at least he can! It appears that he and Don have good chemistry (which isn't always the easiest thing to create) and it is great to have closed the revolving door on guitarists. Overall, a very determined, well thought out effort from one of metal's greatest vocal icons. Definitely well worth a spin (or two.. or three...etc).

Free Music Review: Signature Dokken Sound
Hit: 4 Stars

This is hands down the best Dokken album since Up from the ashes. Pure Dokken from beginning to end, and even when is obvious that the guys did not wanted to go to far from formula some new songs are really great, modern classics. The new guitar player is copying George Lynch note by note, there is not even and attempt of sounding different from the old trouble maker. But, with out that particular sound Dokken is just not Dokken. By the way, for every one listening, is clear that Don has no voice left, a real shame for he was one of the 80's best singers in my opinion. Even with that this is the best Dokken since the original line up, and if it was the last album under his name, you could say the guy when out with a bang.

Free Music Review: Lightning Can Strike Again!!!!!!
Hit: 4 Stars

After 1 listen I felt as if I was back in the 80's...Excellent album from the boys.It was a very pleasant surprise. The album sticks to the formula that made Dokken, one of the best bands out of the 80's.It has the trademark ballads and rockers that Dokken was known for.Standing On The Outside,Heart To Stone,How I Miss Your Smile,Point Of No Return and This Fire, highlight an explosive effort from Dokken. If you are a Dokken fan of their 80's sound, what are you waiting for??? Go get this one and you will not be disappointed. It Rocks!!!!!!
A solid 4.7 for an explosive Dokken album. The lightning is back!!!!!!

Free Music Review: Dokken still rocks
Hit: 4 Stars

Yeah OK guys, we all know this new CD is not Tooth and Nail or Back for the Attack, but it is still REALLY good. I've listened to it twice and my first impression is very positive.

I didn't think Dokken would survive long after Lynch left. But Jon Levin did a nice job on the riffs, they suit Don's voice well. The fact that these guys are still putting out new melodic rock is very cool, and I'm really digging this new one. I think *most* real Dokken fans will be very pleased with this.
