Free Music Review: One of the better rock albums of the 80's - a top ten for sure.

I recall putting a quarter in the jukebox, and playing "In My Dreams" from this album. Sometime in 1985. Hard to believe it was that long ago. I had little money, but joined the Columbia House 10 albums, or cassettes, for 1 cent promotion and this one was one of those cassettes. I was a teenager, and music was my escape from teen issues. I listened to this album over and over again.
Unchain The Night, Hunter, Don't Lie to Me, and In My Dreams are my favorite Dokken songs of all; they got me into metal music for life. Now I'm in my late 30's, and those songs still are worthy of my Ipod. They will never die, along with my youth within.
George Lynch is superb here, and the next album, Back for the Attack, was more heavy songs, and a begining of sound change for Dokken.
This album seemed to give it's audience a versatile look at the band. I recommend Back for the Attack too. Excellent.
This record is worth every penny. A+
Under Lock & Key Poster
Japanese only SHM pressing. Features 24-bit mastering and packaged in a paper sleeve. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.Sure, they may have been the kings of heavy metal Cheez Whiz, but unlike many image-conscious '80s rockers, Dokken wrote genuinely appealing songs. Frontman Don Dokken's voice carried better than most belters, and George Lynch was a ferociously gifted guitarist who could tug at the heartstrings as easily as he could burn down the bedroom. Under Lock and Key, which wasn't as combustive as Dokken's first two albums Breaking the Chains and Tooth and Nail, seemed like an effort by the band to attract a larger following. It worked. Candy metal softballs like "It's Not Love," "Unchain the Night," and "In My Dreams" were heavy enough to keep the guys rockin', but sensitive enough to attract the chicks.
