Free Music Review: A+ For LIVE AND WELL Hit: 5 StarsWOW! When I Found Out That Dolly Was Comming out with another Live CD I was Kinda worried because of her age (60 years) It would sound bad or not as good as her two other live CD's BUT I WAS SO WRONG! This CD is great And dollys version of AFTER THE GOLDRUSH is spectacular better than her version on 1996 TREASURES
She Also adds alot of Humor in between songs (Some of it almost made laugh my head off!). I even found out on the CD that she was thinking of calling "HALOS AND HORNS" Who let the Hogs out!
ALBUM STANDOUTS: Mountain Angel, Shine, Rocky Top, Smokey Mountain Memories, After The Goldrush, Jolene, I Will Always Love You.
THIS CD IS WORTH THE MONEY! SO BUY IT! BEFORE IT DISAPPEARS INTO THE ABYSS!
Free Music Review: Great Live Recording of Dolly's Last Few Years! Hit: 5 StarsThis album is a perfect example of what you will hear at a Dolly concert. None of Dolly's interaction with the audience has been removed for the discs, so you hear her talking in between songs! If you like this CD, there is also a companion DVD so you can enjoy watching the concert as well! Buy this release, I am sure you will enjoy it.
Free Music Review: From a not-so-country fan Hit: 5 StarsI admit that I am not what you would call a country fan. I enjoy some of the new artists, some of the old, but my main interest has been rock and roll (all styles) and some jazz and blues.
After reading the reviews for this CD I decided to give it a try. I had heard some of Dolly's bluegrass material and was very impressed. I recently got into bluegrass and enjoy a lot of it.
I am also familiar with some of her previous hits like "9 to 5", "Two Doors Down" and of course "Jolene". Let me say from a non-country standpoint that this CD is amazing just for the sheer energy and perfomance Dolly and her band give. It's so nice to hear a perfomer who is truly interested in entertaining the audience rather than themselves. Dolly's stories are both moving and funny and do not distract from the performance, but enhance it even more. She is a very smart and funny lady and has written some amazing songs throughout her career. I would love to have seen her at this show or any of the 13 she did for this brief tour. It would have been better than most of the rock concerts I've been to over the years where you leave thinking of what you could have done with the money you just spent on the show. (Kiss' recent tours, for example, where they have been a Kiss cover band). Dolly gives her all on this CD and has won me over. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys entertainment of any musical style. Keep up the great work Dolly! You're the best!
Free Music Review: I love Dolly, but not this CD Hit: 3 StarsFirst of all, Dolly's wonderlful, a criminally underrated songwriter. I was so excited to see she had a live CD, but when i listened it just didn't do it for me. i think the main reason was I couldn't help comparing it to her 1994 live CD, Heartsongs. Now that is the best live CD I have ever heard and possibly my favourite Dolly CD. I was hoping for a sequel to Heartsongs, but this didn't come close. Maybe if I had never heard Heartsongs, I'd love Live and Well as much as everyone else. Live and Well sounds too much like talking and then singing, and while Heartsongs has both, the talking is more meaningful and joins the singing so much better--it flows better. Give it a listen and you'll see what I mean.
