So redundant and unremarkable is this Dolly Parton collection it is worth noting that Amazon.com does not even bother to provide a track listing. I have seen a track listing and believe me there is absolutely NOTHING here that hasn't been available for years and the literally dozens of other compilations that RCA puts out on what has become an annual basis.In fact, last year RCA released the Dolly Parton compilation "RCA Country Legends," a 16 track collection. Fully half of the twenty songs on the so called "Ultimate Dolly Parton" were on "Legends." The other 10 songs here are readily available on other compilations making this not "The Ultimate Dolly Parton" but "The Redundant Dolly Parton." Even the songs here from Dolly's pre-pop phase -- gems like "Jolene," "Joshua," and the always spectacular "Coat of Many Colors" have been collected to death and the fact that this collection once again puts much more emphasis on Parton's pop career ("Here You Come Again," "9 to 5," "Islands in the Stream," etc.) at the expense of her far more compelling and, these days, hard to find country songs (why is the original version of "Down From Dover" not available on any in print Dolly Parton collection, while the aforementioned pop songs are on dozens?) shows once again that RCA is more interested in endless compilations of generic pop songs than reminding the world of why Parton was considered one of the most prolific and talented country music artists of either gender. Ultimate? Not even close.
