Free Music Notes for End of InnocenceFree Music Review: A Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
I've always lived under the notion that even a blind squirrel picks up a nut every once in a while. Don Henley proved this in The End Of The Innocence. I had never cared for any of his work with the Eagles, and his first two solo efforts contained some decent tracks, but nothing ground-breaking. In The End Of The Innocence, Henley presents five of the best songs ever written: The evocative title track, the two mature ballads "Heart Of The Matter" and "The Last Worthless Evening", the melancholic jazz found in "New York Minute", and the hard rocker "I Will Not Go Quietly" that isn't typical of Henley's style. I think Henley was at the pinnacle of his career with this album, because its lyrical content was mature and relevant. Pick up The End Of The Innocence if you want to own one of the best albums of the 80s and one of the best albums of all time.
Free Music Review: His Best Album Hit: 5 Stars
Though Sunset Grill is the best Don Henley Song in my opinion, the title track is a darn close second. The piano riff and the great lyrics make it a classic. I like how he switches from acousitc guitar to organs and then electric guitar in his songs. This album contains his best collection of songs of his four solo albums and it is the best produced. It is easily one of the best albums of the eightites becuase of the way Henley encapsulizes the feeling of the late eightites. The withering economy and the realization "of the tired man we elected king" comes full circle. He has beautiful love songs that have a message and unlike his new album, every song is written well and is cohesive to the album as a unit. Henley's voice is his greatest asset and I hope he will revert back to the songwriting displayed here and forget the scholck he wrote for Inside Job.
Free Music Review: Good healing album for a broken soul Hit: 5 Stars
This CD makes me wonder - What kind of problems Don was dealing with at the time when he created it? When this album first came out, I was dealing with a broken heart and soul. All the songs dealt with a lot of emotions that I was dealing with, and helped me realize that I was really going through "growing pains". If you (or someone you know) are in your early 20's and are dealing with a lot of "growing pains", get this CD. It will heal your soul. Best song by far is "Heart of the Matter". It will remind you that forgiving others as well as yourself is so important in this life. Whatever problems Don was dealing with, I'm just greatful he dealt with them through his music. And judging from other reviews, many others are greatful too.
Free Music Review: Truly one of the great albums Hit: 5 Stars
Without going off the deep end, this is truly one of the greatest albums ever...definitely one of the top albums of its decade. Henley was able to craft some great songs while lamenting the loss of innocence. He was able to powerfully compare the loss of virginity to the loss of our country's innocence. "Just lay your head back on the ground, And let your hair spill all around me, Offer up your best defense, But this is the end, This is the end of the innocence" is incredibly moving stuff. There are some wise, mature themes and lyrics on this album...one of the most powerful "breakup songs" I think I've ever heard...But I think it's about forgiveness...Forgiveness...Even if, even if you don't love me anymore...
Free Music Review: A Must-Have CD Hit: 5 Stars
If you like Don Henley's voice - you just gotta get this CD. Apart from a couple of tracks that I wasn't struck on - this CD is just brilliant. I've been playing it in the car for months (non-stop) and it's still as fresh as it was the first time I heard it. Henley's vocals are right-on and (as you'd expect from a drummer) most tracks carry a solid, driving, background beat. That isn't to say that they're all rock tunes but they are a good mix of very listenable songs. This CD is worth getting just for The End of Innocence, The Last Worthless Evening, New York Minute and The Heart of the Matter. The other tracks are a bonus - and what a bonus. Don't deprive yourself anymore - Buy it now!
