Free Music Notes for CrayonsFree Music Review: Colorful CRAYONS Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a card carrying fan of Donna Summer since 1975 and really happy that she was able to release a new CD after all these years. We've been teased every few years or so with a dance song here and there, and or a track or two that has appeared on someone elses CD project, but this really will feed true Summer fans both new and old. CRAYONS is very colorful, and allows the listener to experience a variety of beats, vocals and themes. Most know that Donna has always had a POWERFUL VOICE, so to me hearing it used in different ways is okay. If some of the songs are remixed, they should include accapella versions and allow us to hear her belt out the words without some of the extra do-dad stuff that a previous reviewer was put off by. Since I realize that she doesn't need all the electronic stuff, it doesn't bother me to hear it. It allows her to hit that current market, and that isn't a bad thing. I'm just glad to hear her new songs on the internet/radio and see her back on TV, having a good time. From Disco Queen, to the Diva of Dance, to Musical Empress. Do your thang Donna! Much love always.
Free Music Review: The Queen IS back and better than ever :-> Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, am I impressed. It's been about a 17 year wait for this, but it's over and she's only gotten better with time and hasn't lost a thing. She sounds amazing and this cd is awesome.
There is only one song I don't like on here, and it's the title track, Crayons. Everything else to me is pure gold and while of course I definately love the first release, Stamp Your Feet, I also truly enjoy I'm A Fire (7.10 minutes long) and the slower song Sand On My Feet. This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time and one of her absolute best as well. She co-wrote these songs along with a host of other song writers and she proves that she hasn't lost her touch at all. I hope she'll tour Australia sometime soon because I'll be one of the first in line.
I highly recommend this fantastic cd. It will have you dancing and singing along and it has a little bit of everything here. I hope that she will continue releasing new material like this soon. No more waiting around like the last time. This is a must purchase cd - you'll love it.
Free Music Review: Big A*s Sound Hit: 5 Stars
Donna Summer's "Crayons" is an amazing return to form by this great singer. "Stamp Your Feet" is perched at #1 in my personal top ten. It's a great track that Donna co-wrote. I haven't seen a lyric sheet, but it sounds like she's singing "Make a big a*s sound!" That's my story & I'm sticking to it. ...Anyway that's what I'm singing as I drive along the road! The title track with Ziggy Marley bounces so joyfully that it's the perfect summer song. I may be wearing out the repeat button on the chorus, "Take a walk on the wild side, Don't be afraid, you could be mine." "The Queen Is Back" sounds like a musical biography referencing her hit "On the Radio," "She walks into the room & everybody knows, it's not a day too soon, she stands & strikes her pose." What a dynamic dramatic track! I also love "Drivin' Down Brazil" with its samba beat and Summer's expressive vocals. Other tracks like the 7-minute "I'm A Fire" and "Science of Love" are also excellent. This is a disc that is sure to be on my "best of 2008" list. Bravo!
Free Music Review: This is some Hot Stuff!! Hit: 5 Stars
The Queen of Disco has come back as if she never left. Donna Summer's first album of all new material in 17 years kicks off with the pounding "Stamp Your Feet" showing she still has it. From there she goes right into "Mr. Music" and the rhythms don't stop. Don't think this is a straight ahead dance album, it's not. The second half of the album takes different directions from the spanish flavored "Drivin' Down Brazil" to the swampy blues of "Slide Over Backwards" to the ballad "Be Myself Again".
I found this album to be a great listen from start to finish and one that you just start over again once it stops. Unlike recent albums by Madonna, Donna Summer isn't trying to recapture the sounds of the 70's, instead she's just taking her sound and updating it. There's no reason why she can't have a huge hit with "Stamp Your Feet" for instance and attract a whole new generation who know nothing of her past hits.
She's still working hard for the money and "Crayons" is a great "comeback".
Free Music Review: The Queen is Back Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent new album by Donna Summer. My favorite track is "Stamp Your Feet". This is a very positive song about not giving up. My other favorite track is "Sand On My Feet". This is a pretty romantic song. I like the acoustic guitar playing by Angelo Petrucci on this track. "The Queen is Back" is a funky sexy track that gets me moving. I love this song. The title track is an upbeat track with a reggae sound. Donna sounds great with Ziggy Marley here. Donna slows it down a bit with "Be Myself Again". The keyboard playing by Sebastian Arocha Morton is lovely on this track. "Mr Music" and "I'm A Fire" are good dance tracks. There is a vitality in Donna's voice that comes through on these two songs. "Fame The Game" is a song about the price of fame and the illusion of happiness. Tom Hemby gives this track an edge playing the electric guitar on this song. I love the lyrics and musical arrangements of these songs very much.
