I LOVE THIS CD MORE THAN ANYTHING!!! I hear the songs and I am taken back to 1997 when I got to be up on stage in Joseph performing at the Elgin Theatre. I can visualize the movements and sets and cast. I remember what it was like to be performing to an audience of over a thousand people. I remember our rehearsals and all the amazing things that happened to me over the 5 months I was in Joseph. The funny, happy and sad moments. There is nothing like it.This CD is for anyone who has seen the production live, or who wants to feel and hear what Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is.
I miss the show!
There are two things I didn't like about this CD:
1. It didn't include the entre-act (the kids sang it) - This is probably due to the fact CDs can only hold so many minutes - that probably would have put them over.
2. I wish the song "Any Dream Will Do" (number 2) wasn't the pop (single) version - if they wanted to include that they could have put it at the end as a bonus track or something.
Finally: I read in a review that someone didn't like this CD because the kids parts sounded like there were teenagers mixed in. To that I say DUH!!! For those of you who have only seen the video - the kids aren't supposed to be a bunch of 5 year olds!!! In the live production there were 46 kids ranging in age from 8-16 (maybe 17) So don't be ingorant!!! JEEZZ!!!
AND
to settle the score, Janet does have a somewhat pitchy voice, but the narrator from the video completely sucks!!! The video sucks!! I know I was in it!! You people who think you know what Joseph is are really starting to piss me off, because you don't! Go see the show LIVE and then you can say something about it, untill then shut your yap and stop being ingorant!!!!
The two narrators who were in the show during 1997 are the best I've heard!!!
Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1992 Canadian Cast) Poster
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat completed the transition from cantata for schoolkids to big-budget glitzfest with Steven Pimlott's 1991 London revival. Here's the 1992 Canadian version of that show, and even if it's not an ideal recording--Janet Metz as the narrator is no match for Laurie Beechman in the original Broadway cast and there's a little too much synthesizer in the orchestrations--this CD is valuable for the performance of former teen pop idol Donny Osmond as the title character. He's in excellent voice, and was so right for the role that he was selected to preserve it for the 2000 video production. And of course the songs are still here, showcasing Rice's witty lyrics and Lloyd Webber's chameleon tendencies--dabbling in country, calypso, French cafés, and a King-like pharaoh--as well as favorites "Any Dream Will Do," "Close Every Door," and "Go, Go, Go Joseph." This production also includes the "Joseph Remix" (also known as the "Joseph Megamix"), a nine-minute medley of themes arranged with a heavy beat that was used for a kind of onstage aerobics routine as the show's postscript. --David HoriuchiBroadway & Vocalists Music CDs
