Donny Osmond has triumphed with "This Is The Moment", a collection of Broadway covers that infuses Jazz, Adult Contemporary and Musical Theater. This is pure grown-up Donny, smooth and cool, from it's touching opening of "Seasons of Love" from "Rent", to his pleading for "Immortality" from "Saturday Night Fever" and finally to the album's personal closing, "Give My Regards To Broadway" from "Little Johnny Jones". Donny single-handedly proves to those critics who have in the past tagged Osmond music with terms like fluff and sugar, that Donny Osmond is a singer/musician whose time has come. It's hard to outlive our four most common images of Donny: 1. The adorable boy next door while we listen to 1970's "Puppy Love", 2. The Brady-esque/Partridge-esque keyboard playing member of The Osmonds while listening to 1970's "One Bad Apple", 3. The most hip purple sock wearing teenager to have his own TV show with sister Marie while listening to 1976's "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock N' Roll", or "C'Mon Marianne" and 4. The sex symbol of the late 80's in one of the greatest comebacks ever with "Soldier of Love". Somehow, Donny has done it once again, he's gone to the next level, and he has done it brilliantly with producer Phil Ramone. For some strange reason, people are afraid to admit they like Donny Osmond, maybe it's just a reflection of their own insecurities of living through the 70's, 80's and 90's, or it's the positive happy image we remember of him and his family. Either way, if you still can't admit you owned the albums, watched the TV shows, or knew someone with his poster on your wall, you can buy this album and know that you won't have to hide it when your friends come over. They are going to love it, and so will you. Congratulations Donny, this album is among the best work you've ever done, and I hope to see you doing it on Broadway soon. This is the moment.
