"What I Meant to Say" is an excellent set. The big news here is that Donny blooms as a songwriter. Yes, he does work with a number of co-writers, but the strong songcraft and performance create some classic tracks. My first impression on listening to the CD was "Donny Goes Boy Band." However, it grows as you listen more. I figure if there are three or four excellent tunes on a disc, it is an excellent purchase. This disc surpasses that standard. "Breeze On By" is the first of my favorite tracks with its addictive samba-like beat, Cory Baylis' great chugging guitar & Donny's high flying vocals, "No matter what happens I ain't giving it up; Every single day I'm falling deeper in love." "In It for Love" is another excellent track with its pop groove that starts out with some reserve before it breaks into a catchy chorus, "I want you to see that I can't wait another minute cause you know I'm in it for love." "Shoulda' Known Better" is another infectious upbeat track that Donny pumps out joyfully complete with a horn section giving a taste of swing, "How come I didn't see you were falling for me? The love was in your eyes; I didn't realize, For the rest of my life I'll regret it." "Insecurity" is another delightful track with its great pop groove, the percussion that percolates periodically & Donny's great soaring vocals, "If I told you what I feel for you baby, If I told you that you're driving me crazy..." The covers of Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting" and the Burt Bacharach classic "This Guy's In Love with You" are also excellent. "What I Meant to Say" is an excellent set. BUY THIS CD ! BUT IF YOU GET THE CHANCE SEE THE SHOW !!!! I HAVE BEEN A MR OSMOND FAN SINCE I WAS 10 AND HE WAS 10 ... HAVING LIVED THROUGH ALL OF HIS INCARNATIONS WITH HIM I MUST SAY I COULD LIVE WITHOUT THE OLD AND ONLY LISTEN TO THE NEW ! WHAT I MEANT TO SAY CONTAINS THE BEST ROCKERS DONNY (OR ANYONE ELSE) HAS EVER DREAMED OF PUTTING TOGETHER AND THE BALLADS AND SLOWER TEMPO STUFF IS ADMIRABLE AND INDEED MEMORABLE ! THE MELODIES WILL STAY WITH YOU FOR DAYS AND DAYS. THE LIVE SHOW WAS INCREDIBLE (WHAT A BAND!!! AND WHAT A PLAYER DONNY IS TOO!) OF COURSE I STILL ENJOY THE OLD HITS OF DONNY AND BROS. BUT THE REACTION BY MYSELF AND THE AUDIENCE TO THE NEW TUNES SHOULD GIVE MR. OSMOND PLENTY OF INSPIRATION TO RECORD MORE ORIGINAL SONGS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. WE ARE ALL SO PROUD TO SEE THE RECORD CLIMB UP AND DOWN THE CHARTS AND HOPEFULLY THE REST OF THE WORLD PICKS UP A COPY OF THIS ... If you are thinking of the Donny Osmond from the 70's, THINK AGAIN. This is a true professional singer and entertainer with a real voice and music to share, not one made from a mold in production room like so many of today's lip sinc wanna-be's.
Mr. Osmond finally wrote and produced his own music for the first time on this album. All you have to do is listen to the CD with an open mind and ear to hear how his music and voice have changed through the years. And the change is for the better.
From Broadway, to Rock, to Pop, to Ballads, this guy can do it all.
I have had this CD for a day and can't find anything I dislike about it. I have ordered a couple extra copies now to share with friends that can appreciate the talent expressed.
Congratulations on your first writing / producing project, Mr. Osmond. I'll be watching for more.

If you have always enjoyed Donny's music, you'll really love this album. If you never cared for Donny much, but enjoy adult contemporary music, you'll still love this. He doesn't seem to try to sing so "perfectly" on all of the songs, and really lets raw emotion come through on several, particularly "My Perfect Rhyme" and "Keep Her in Mind" which just grabs hold of you and builds and doesn't let go until the end. A couple of the songs I could do without, like George Michael's "Faith" (and I loved George Michael), but absolutely worth the purchase. I bought my copy from Amazon.UK and got the English release because I couldn't wait for the American release. I'm not disappointed. My cd arrived today and I absolutely love this cd. I love Donny's cover versions of "Right Here Waiting" and "This guy's in Love with You", which Donny recorded in his younger days. It demonstrates just how far Donny has come.
I love the songs that Donny co-wrote with a number of people. Where it used to be that Donny usually sang songs written by others (with the exception of a few), with this cd, Donny has come into his own to include composer to his list of talents as a singer and musician.
Buy this cd. If you are not a fan of Donny, you will after purchasing this cd.
Excellent job Donny. I have been a fan of yours for many years and I continue to be a proud fan.
