Free Music Review: This is what Donny meant to say...
Hit: 4 Stars

What I Meant To Say is the 54th release of Donny Osmond's career. And it's his most personal to date. Only two songs on the disc were not written or co written by him; the Richard Marx hit "Right Here Waiting" which he covers quite aptly here, and the Burt Bacharach standard "This Guy's In Love With You" which you can just picture being sung in a smoky lounge somewhere.

Working with Gary Barlow (Take That), Eliot Kennedy and others, Donny has formed a CD with an accessible, pleasant mix of up tempo pop and smooth ballads.Put aside any pre concieved notions you have of Donny Osmond and just give the music a chance. You'll be pleasantly suprised, I think.

What I Meant To Say is the opener. It's about wanting to say all these things that have been in your heart the entire time but never did, missing the chance. Cliche all of that is, yes, but this is wonderfully delivered.

Breeze On By is the first single, and has been added to Smooth Jazz stations across the country. It's riff comes from the George Benson classic "Breezin'" and coasts along on a sunny, feel-good groove.

Keep Her In Mind is another ballad, and I think, the strongest one here. Just goosebump raising.

One Dream was written with Jim Brickman and Beth Nielsen Chapman for the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Not my favorite on here at all. Probably the only track I skip.

In It For Love is more upbeat, and danceable. Never fails to get the crowds jumping when he does this one during the current tour!

My Perfect Rhyme was written for his wife, Debbie. It has a beautiful, heartfelt sentiment.

Shoulda Known Better is another one of those rockin' danceable tracks here. Love this one!!

Whenever You're In Trouble was written for his children and his pure love for them shines through unmistakably here.

Insecurity, even with it's "rap" thrown in took me some getting used to for some reason. But it's grown on me and I love it.

Broken Man is my absolute favorite of the ballads, and just gorgeous.

As a fan of 30+ years, I can say it's good to have Donny doing music that is truly his, and came from his own heart.

Free Music Review: Donny Osmond says what he means...
Hit: 4 Stars

Donny Osmond has a real talent for songwriting! He has always had an amazing voice as an adult, but now he shows us that he can also write some very thoughtful lyrics as well. It doesn't hurt that he is easy on the eyes, but that's just an added bonus for those of us who don't relate to the current crop of younger talent. I am not sure why two of the twelve songs are cover versions of someone else's compositions, since the rest of the songs on the CD are original collaborations but the the two songs are nicely done. I listened to the "North American" version and am quite happy with my purchase. One of the best features of this CD is that I can hear the artist's voice quite clearly, without a lot of unnecessary electronic wizardry to make you wonder if he would sound the same "live". I'm pretty sure Donny Osmond would sound just as good in a concert hall as he sounds on this CD! Close your eyes, sit back and relax and prepare to have a good time. I really appreciated being able to read the lyrics to the songs-this helped me understand the messages the composers are trying to get across.I'm predicting the next CD of original songs will rate 5 stars, because it sounds like Donny Osmond will have more to say in the future as well.

Free Music Review: Music That Is Good For The Soul
Hit: 4 Stars

Well I have now listened to this CD about 8 or 9 times and after reading all 35 reviews of this album I think I am ready to put in my 2 cents. For many years Donny Osmond wanted to prove that he was a "Rocker", and although he is fully capable of doing harder material, the public has never really afforded him the opportunity. In this album I think Donny has found his niche. One reviewer has called this CD "Good elevator music". I think that statement is simply incorrect. This music has a level of maturity to it that I am grateful to hear. If this is elevator music then George Benson has been making a good buck off of it for alot of years. "What I Meant To Say", "Breeze On By", "My Perfect Rhyme", and "Broken Man" are very strong tracks. My personal favorite is the Bacharach and David hit "This Guy's In Love With You". Donny Osmond always wanted to rival Michael Jackson. What Donny Osmond needs to remember is that all we need from him is to be the best Donny Osmond he can be. This album is a very big step in that direction.

Free Music Review: Osmond hits stride as collaborating songwriter
Hit: 4 Stars

I have been a rather consistent buyer of Donny's music but I haven't always liked it. I've appreciated his voice, again not always, but usually. I've never held his songwriting in high esteem. Until now.

This CD relies heavily on Osmond songwriting collaborations and it pays off. I find the songs well written and worthy of musical theater. Some beautiful music here.

The CD gets a little laborious somewhere around "My Perfect Rhyme" and I think it could have used a more upbeat tempo in there to keep one from falling asleep at the wheel.......but all in all, apart from "This Guy's In Love" which I think vocally he totally blows in the end, the CD is worth the money. If you like pretty music in easy listening as part of your life's soundtrack, don't do without this one.

Free Music Review: Keep it goin Donny!
Hit: 4 Stars

This guy has been through alot when it comes to the entertainment biz. But one thing is for sure, Donny keeps on goin. He's been to the top, to obscurity, and back. I'm not a huge Donny fan but you've got to hand it to him for giving us some of our most memorable hits, ("Puppy Love" for one).

This album sounds as good as I've ever heard Donny sound, and that's great. He's half way between Paul Anka and Clay Aiken, and that's great too.

As an American family icon I think it only fitting for Clay to join him on stage and on his next album.
