Free Music Notes for No Regrets

Free Music Review: Dope, yo!
Hit: 4 Stars

This cd has definitely proved Dope's musical progress. The sounds are raw and tasteful. The guitars and drums are sick! {: Dope has gotten heavier, but it was definietely for the better! Dope IS dope, yo!

Free Music Review: Great album
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a newer bang I have started listening to and I enjoy this CD.

Free Music Review: Great Album-But not a 4.
Hit: 3 Stars

I've heard a few Dope tracks on satellite radio but this is the first time I've picked up one of their albums. I've been a fan of other bands in this style, e.g Disturbed, and I'm kinda sorry I didn't have more exposure to this group. I really am enjoying this effort. The texture of nu metal is clearly evident, plus strong rhythms and powerful breakdowns make this a really fun album.

Sorry to lower the average rating, I cannot in good conscious give this album 4 stars. I reserve a 4 for those bands that I can't get enough of. But this band is a solid 3.5. I do think it is a great album and all metal heads should own it. As I listen through the album for about the 5th time, the word "thin" comes to mind. I prefer denser tracks with many riffs and overlays, stronger musicianship and an overall heaviness . I much prefer some of the current melodic dm or metalcore bands. Some of the Dope tracks begin to approach a level of complexity, but many of the songs are relatively straight forward single-riff centric tunes, with not really a whole lot of intricacies. I do like the track No Regrets and the opening riff is denser and darker and more to my taste.

Many of the bands in this style opted for guitar solos in 08 and 09. Very appealing and more in the style of straight up metal. I love the Zakk guitar solo on Addiction . It really is nice to see this style expand and take on elements of other styles. At 2:00 the solo on No Regrets is catchy albeit too short.

Every album these days must have their radio friendly track and clearly My Funeral fits that bill perfectly. I'm sure fans of harder stuff would snub this track, but I think it's great that a band of this caliber can write some mass appealing songs, This is the only way to bring fans over to metal, many who will actually appreciate the harder tracks on the album. Heck I started on Joan Jett and Pat Benatar.

The cover of Billy Idol's famous tune Rebel Yell is a really great flashback for me. I must have watched that video 10 times a day on MTV (when they played commercial free music videos). Dope does this track well, I would say better than the original by today's standards, and the solo is great. I can't remember if there was a solo on the original, I'll have to check that.
