Free Music Notes for Down From the Mountain: Live Concert Performances by the Artists & Musicians of O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Free Music Review: Not Quite the Studio version but worth a listen
Hit: 4 Stars

There are no bad tracks on this album. All have the same spirit as the movie soundtrack. There's some new vibrations contained within that have the same Americana charm as their forerunners. Thank goodness there is a Chris Thomas King track on this collection (I was hoping for more), lest the album's artwork of the crossroads where the fleeing convicts met up with "Tommy Johnson" would have imparted an ironic note. It is a real good listen, worth the expense. My only gripe is that it wasn't performed and recorded at Gruene Hall.

Free Music Review: Great, Great, Folks
Hit: 4 Stars

I reallly loved the fact that these people were brought together in whatever way and am glad I bought a copy, However the audio was clipping as if it was not monitored at the sound board, it actually sounded like they gathered the sound from an on stage camera. Also they did not show footage of the song "Constant Sorrow " in it's entirity from the concert, only footage of the band practicing the song, kinda strange since it was the main song in my opinion.

Free Music Review: sweet, but too brief
Hit: 4 Stars

this makes for an excellent compliment to the original soundtrack. the added tracks from gillian welch are wonderfully complex and show the scope that folk/roots music can span. my only complaint is that it is too short. at twelve quick tracks, the CD was almost through by the time i finished my twenty-five minute morning commute.

Free Music Review: Another Great Neo-Retro Bluegrass Album
Hit: 4 Stars

"If you liked O Brother..." (even if you didn't - "Brother" seems to me the worst of the discs spawned from the movie), you'll like this live set from some of the top names of the recent bluegrass revival. With people like Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch, you really can't lose, so go ahead and buy it!

Free Music Review: Finale Not Included
Hit: 4 Stars

This is most, but not all, of the music from the DVD. It is missing Down To The River To Pray and the finale, the name of which escapes me. That it is missing the finale is a big disappointment, but the rest of the performances are wonderful.
