Free Music Review: What a great musician!
Hit: 5 Stars

The first time i heard Doyle Dykes play was at a fingerstyle concert/workshop. I was so impressed with his music I immediately got the CD and it is unbelievable!!

Free Music Review: Gitarre 2000
Hit: 4 Stars

Doyle Dykes is a guitar player supreme, but this CD gave me some dissapointment. After whatching Doyle on the Grand Old Opry I thought maybe this CD would have some real down home pickin, but It doesn't. I would prefer to hear him play some real hard knockin traditional music which he is so outstanding at.

Free Music Review: Doyle Is A Top-Notch Guitar Player!!!
Hit: 4 Stars

I heard parts of this CD on our local public radio station when it first came out. Doyle is a top-notch guitar player!!! He is one of the best fingerstyle guitar players that I have ever heard. The best songs are Gitarre 2000, Girl (an old Beatles song remade), and The Lord's Prayer. Thanks Doyle!!!

Free Music Review: Amazing fingerstyle guitar, but lose the string arrangements
Hit: 3 Stars

I first heard Mr. Dykes on an acoustic guitar sampler CD--his contribution was a piece entitled "Hurricanes, Earthquakes, and Tomatoes," and it blew me away. It combines incredible technical skill with lovely musicality. That one song is simultaneously cerebral, emotional, subtly intricate, and over-the-top fun. A true tour-de-force.

The same level of musicianship is evident on Gitarre 2000, but here the tone is much more introspective. Which is fine...until the strings start. Quite a few pieces are overloaded with string arrangements that are annoyingly bland.

I don't regret the purchase, and I do hope to enjoy Doyle Dykes' phenomenal talent on other recordings, but I sure hope he lets his solo guitar sing (and whisper, and shout, and purr) without muddying the works with elevator string arrangements.
