Free Music Review: Best Album by Best Band Ever
Hit: 5 Stars

This album definently sounds like it has elements from all of DT's previous albums, they just keep getting better and better and better.

Instead of talking about the album as a whole I'll break down each song.

1. In The Presence Of Enemies - a good opener

2. Forsaken - kinda reminds me something from SFM.

3. Constant Motion - first time I hear this song, I though was this Metallica? Awsome song!

4. Dark Eternal Night - The heaviest song DT did to date, And I love it. The begining sounds a little like something TOOL would do.

5. Repentance - I did a double take when I heard the middle of this song, It almost sounded like something that should have been on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, its good if you listen to this song then immediatelly play Voices it just flows very nicely.

6. Prophets Of War - This is the only song that I hate from the album, it just isn't up to DT's standards.

7. Ministry Of Lost Souls - Definently the awsome, reminds me of stuff from 6DIF with a little bit of SFM mixed in. I actally would play this song and then play Home, another good combo.

8. Presence Of Enemies 2 - This song almost sounds like it could be the Hard Rock version of Phantom of the Opera, actually that is a project I would like to see DT do, I bet LaBrie could pull it off. It also kinda sounds like something Megadeth would do. Then toward the end where it has that nice Snyth spacey riff. I just love it defiently hear the RUSH in this song.

Awsome album. I just love DT, I'm definently gonna spend the $300 and buy the VIP backstage pass for their next Tour, I might even fly out to Austrailia to see their tour they have now.

Free Music Review: A Breath of Fresh Air
Hit: 5 Stars

Ah, finally, the progressive album that all us Dream Theater fans have been waiting for. After getting mixed thoughts and reviews from Octavarium, I think DT realized it was time to knuckle down and get back to basics. What's the result? Systematic Chaos. Keep in mind, this album is not a contiunation of anything, it's not Train of Thought II, it's nothing like Octavarium, it really does stand alone in terms of diversity and uniqueness. Dream Theater took a step in a different direction for Systematic Chaos, it's not a concept album like Six Degrees or even Octavarium, it's not "balls to the wall" metal like Train of Thought was. This album is progressive, heavy, melodic, and complex. Everyone else has given a play by play of each and every song, so, I'll spare you my two cents as I agree with what everyone else has said. I will say this though, some songs take a few listens to truly enjoy. Repentance and Ministry of Lost Souls are truly masterpieces, and even if you don't like them the first time around, they're worth another shot. Also, don't base the entire album off of "Constant Motion," even though they chose that as their first single, it really is the weakest track on the album. If you're a DT fan, you should really give this album a spin, especially if you were a little sour after Octavarium (like I know I was for a while).

Oh, on a side note, the documentary is hilarious and interesting (As you can see, the "Rock" track is all the way up, and the "Suck" and "Gay" tracks are actually completely off). I wont ruin anything else for you, but, it's worth the extra money to watch Portnoy screw around in the studio.

Free Music Review: Dream Theater keeps evolving
Hit: 5 Stars

Dream Theater (whom I will be seeing live, for the first time, at the University of Buffalo) achieves another milestone in an already fabulous career. They used the three "P's" to produce, in my opinion, their magnum opus, that is: passion, poise and precision. Some bands who are quite technically proficient (Planet X comes to mind) write material that is technically challenging, but heartless. Dream Theater's music is constantly driven, interesting, and unpredictable and hard as hell to play, I know, I'm a drummer and playing along with Portnoy makes me the music always has heart!

I won't bore you with running down the details of each song, if you're that curious borrow it or better yet buy it. The album is full of bombast, odd time signatures, key changes, tempo changes, and some of the better lyrical input in the last few albums.

A couple of very minor sour notes: I'm not crazy about the track "Constant Motion" and I wish they hadn't have split up the song "In the Presence of Enemies." Lastly I think Petrucci, sort of dropped the ball on "In the Presence of Enemies", lyrically speaking. A bit anti-climactic (think: upheaval, angst, a horrible war inside my head, tumultuous, rage - then, ooops, all better now!) Great musically, but falls just a bit short lyrically - all J.P. needed to do was stretch out the resolution a bit more, but really no big deal.

This is a brilliant work, such that I would rather listen to the out-takes of this album than listen to the finished product of, say, Maroon Five or My Chemical Romance, the boys from DT can play!

Free Music Review: Dream Theater did their homework...
Hit: 5 Stars

I thought that Dream Theater's amazing carrer was soon to be coming to an end, until 'Systematic Chaos' was relased. These boys from Long Island knew that it was time to bring something to the fans to let them know that it's not the end just yet. The title of this cd really explains the mood of this album.

These guys surley did their homework. Because not only do you see an excellent mix of various sounds from their past records you also get a vibe of the bands entire discography. Through most of the songs you can hear the melocholy softness of 'Falling Into Infinity' to the hard hitting rush of 'Train Of Thought' all around you can the complexity yet steady flow of 'Scenes From A Memory'

There was definitley alot of time that went into observing the rest of the metal world. In the past few years Metal has been evolving by looking to the roots of the genre of music to create a new taste for us metalheads. There are displays of that reseach in this album moslty in the European area. Some of the bands you can hear in this cd are Nightwish, Stratovarius, Lacuna Coil and new sounds of Megadeth. Constant Motion is by far the best track on this cd. It is such a smooth flowing in your face hard rock hit. The thing that impressed me the most about this cd is that they had to go back and look at their whole career and realized that they have comoe so far and have evolved so much since 1992, why stop now? The journey has just begun.

Free Music Review: Yes I'm biased but I can offer you a balanced review...
Hit: 5 Stars

I will confess straight out - Dream Theater is my favourite band and has been for 12 years. In that time, there have been few disappointments from DT.

Systematic Chaos continues the trend of DT stunning its fans with a new collection of songs. Each album will be great, we know that, the question is really: "what shape will the greatness take". Systematic Chaos is an accurate description of what to expect from the band... an album full of musical brilliance, fashioned out of what seems like chaos.

The album's start sounds very much like a modern tribute to Rush... some nice synth in the background and a very Alex Lifesonesque riff to back it up (Natural Science springs to mind).

The riffs seem more mature in this album while the leads and key/guitar sync passages are as innovative and astonishing as ever.

High Point... the instrumental passage in track 8 - In The Presence of Enemies Pt2; as well as the Forsaken riff.

Low Point... Track 5 - Repentance is a little monotonous. This is made up for in small part by the array of vocal additions from Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Dave Ellefson (in all likelihood the Dave Ellefson of Megadeth fame).

This is my impression given three listens of the album. Overall, a great album and may rank in the top three albums DT have put out. It will take a great album to knock Awake and Train of Thought off my top DT albums list.
