Free Music Notes for Systematic Chaos (W/Dvd) (Spec)Free Music Review: Excellent!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I like to keep things simple. So this will be short and simple.
I really like this album. I am a longtime DT fan and was disappointed by their last album "Octavarium", so I had really high hopes for this and I was not disappointed. I really enjoy listening to this whole album. And the 5.1 versions on the DVD sound phenomenal if you have a decent stereo system.
I rate this album the best since "Scenes From A Memory" as a whole. But there are songs on both "Train Of Thought" and "Six Degrees..." that I like better than any song on "Systematic Chaos", but this album as a whole is slightly better than those as a whole in my opinion.
I have listened to the newest albums by SymhonyX and Porcupine Tree and I don't like either. Currently, I do like "Ghost Opera" by Kamalot. I am also listening to "Black Rain" by Ozzy and "United Abominations" by Megadeth.

Free Music Review: If you liked Train of Thought, this is your album Hit: 5 Stars
DT fan since their early beginnings as Majesty. Have all the albums, seen most of the tours, have all the live DVD's. Learned most of the Petrucci licks, at least the ones acessible to mere mortals. This album crushes, lots of technical stuff, and heavy at the same time. My jury is still out on Prophets of War, I'm hoping it's more of an issue awareness kind of song like the stem cell research song on Six Degrees, and not just some moveon.org type Dixie Chix baloney. Otherwise great over all, especially the two part intro/outro track, and the "monster" themed songs, Forsaken and Dark Eternal Night. aka NADS.
Anyway, there's usually two kinds of people, DT fans and non-DT fans, and if you're a fan you'll like it, if you're not, you won't. But if you're not into DT yet, my best analogy would be that if you liked Rust in Peace by Megadeth, this is where to try to get into the Dream Theater.
Free Music Review: Solid From Start To Finish, A Gem! Hit: 5 Stars
This release had me hooked from the start and gave me the impression that there was a very creative vibe surrounding it. After watching the companion DVD's "making of" documentary, it was reaffirmed that this project seemed to pour out of the band during the writing/recording process. Watching the tidbits of creative epiphanies in the studio makes me appreciate this CD even more. This album is a very cohesive project that I think reflects a rare occurrence in the music industry where a band can have such longevity and still find it in themselves to be excited by their own music and find inspiration in each other's contributions to the music. I have not had a CD grow on me like this in some time where I find myself playing it in my head when not listening to it. It's hard not to be caught up in the band's enthusiasm for this release. Seeing the band perform live recently capped the experience.
Free Music Review: Dream Theater.. WOW Hit: 5 Stars
It's Dream Theater, what can I say? It's epic, hands down.
Systematic Chaos was actually the very first purchase I've made of Dream Theater. I'm fairly new still to the band, being that I started listening to them about over a year ago. But I have to say, it instantly became my favorite band once I heard their older songs.
Despite the CD being a bit pricier on my bit of the edge, it was damn well worth it.
The CD once again proves that DT cannot rust even with age growing on them. Honestly, they continue adding in over 10 minutes to each of their songs. But each of those minutes are beautiful and used extremely well towards making true music and art.
Absolutely beautiful to listen to, and I enjoyed my journey throughout the entire song. Thank you DT.
Free Music Review: The Best Band on Earth....PERIOD! Hit: 5 Stars
It doesn't surprise me at all that this album is as incredible as it is. Musically, it is a masterpiece (and I'll be damned if the instrumental mid-section of The Dark Eternal Night isn't some of the most insane stuff ever layed down...Much respect to simply being able to remember the sequence of all the meter changes!!) I would say it is their best, but everytime they put out a new album I say that, so it's their best until their next best one is released. Dream Theater continue to impress fans and fellow musicians and deserve all the success and growth they have achieved over the past 20 years. I've been a fan since '92 and I've never been disappointed.
If you are new to Dream Theater's music, this album is a great "throw you to the wolves" introduction. Great album...a definite must own!!
