Free Music Review: Brilliant
Hit: 5 Stars

Dream Theater is known for their complex, progressive arrangements and strong musicianship. Any band would be happy to have one of these muscians be their hub, but Dream Theater has 5 talents who all excel at their individual instruments. Bringing it all together in one band is truly a feast for the ears. This release may be their best yet. It's a little heavier and a little darker than some of their other releases, and some of their fast, tight riffs have had me pushing the rewind button in disbelief so I could listen again. The DVD covers the recording of each song, some of the thoughts behind those songs, and a little look into their personalities. If this is the only Dream Theater release you buy, I guarantee you'll be going back for more. Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: Twenty years and still amazing.
Hit: 5 Stars

Systematic Chaos is one album that shows that emotions and music do go together. With this medley of heavy riffs and soft melodies, your ears will be hungry for more after each song. The amount of solo's are less than previous albums, but the technical aspect of this album stays true to Dream Theater's skill. Many of the songs are concept songs, and have beautiful melodies along with their amazing lyrics. The song, "The Dark Eternal Night" is probably one of the heaviest songs put out by Dream Theater. With a technical breakdown at the end, and an intricate intro, this song will have even the hardcore fans listening. People will keep listening to this album many times, even if they have listened to it a dozen times already.

Free Music Review: Awesome
Hit: 5 Stars

I purchased the special edition, with the DVD, which delivered a lot more than what I hoped for. It is over one hour in length, with many of the intricacies of the composing and production of the album. The most amazing part was in the section on the song "repentance" where Mike Portnoy invited some of his friends to contribute voice overlays expressing their own experiences of repentance and confession. I don't think there would have been any way to know that these are actual musicians coming together to connect at such an intimate level. Besides that, this album is definitely a progression in the development and maturity of the DT sound, which gets better and better with each album!! Where will it go from here?!

Free Music Review: Amazing!
Hit: 5 Stars

One of the most diverse albums to date for them. I think it was a great combination of heavy metal and relaxing ballads. Once again they prove they've still got those progressive roots they're steming from with songs like Ministry of Lost Souls & In The Presence of Enemies (altough part 1 is stronger for me). The heavy side is brought out bigger and better than even in The Dark Eternal Night, while the ballad was revealed in Repentance. The weakest track on the album in my opinion was Prophets of War, which is probably one of DT's worst tracks. Overall this is probably their 2nd/3rd best album, with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence being #1 and Scenes From a Memory being ties at 2 or 3. GREAT STUFF!

Free Music Review: Dream Theater moves a bit to the Dark-side!
Hit: 5 Stars

Dream Theater's latest entry brings musical and lyrical elements which have underlaid their earlier works more to the forefront. These elements are darker in nature both from a musical standpoint (heavier and faster guitar and bass riffs and more intricate percussion tracks) and from a lyrical vantage where the songs tell stories of a darker nature.
For Dream Theater fans, it's DT at a new finest. For newcomers to the DT scene it might be a bit too dark, still a fine CD.
I bought the set with the DVD and it is well worth any additional price as Mike Pornoy (DT drummer) made it and the various interviews and studio shots make for an informative and entertaining watch.
