This kind of soul-searching writing seems like an anachronism in a world where Britney, Justin and L'il Kim dominate. Just one listen to the altenatively popish melody of "Carl Perkins Cadillac" and the more thoughtful even melancholy tune of "Danko/Manuel" or "Cottonseed" and you know that this album is something special. When you add in the brutally honest almost Faulknerian lyrics you quickly discover that you have an album of real substance in a musical world otherwise bereft of anything deeper than the latest disposable Strokes diddy. Buy this album and you'll still be listening to it five years from now.
