Free Music Review: Proof that Punk's Not Dead

This Dropkick album is their best. I like Al Barr, but his voice is at times almost a little cartoonish and silly--at times, as with much of "Sing Loud Sing Proud" his jovial, drunken attitude fits well with their sound; but I truly prefer McColgan's approach on this record. "Do or Die" is a punk record first and foremost; it's concise, hard-edged, fast and tough, and appropriate to the modern Irish tradition, it's a socio-political endeavor, a record with serious claims about class and unity. Sure, there's plenty of fun along the way, but it's an altogether more serious and aggressive affair.True to what many have said, there's really not a weak song on the entire record. If you like Stiff Little Fingers with a pinch of AC/DC, CCR, the Pogues and Billy Bragg, then you'll want to sink your teeth into this one.

This should be an "essential recording." The Dropkick Murphys are one of the most ambitious and talented musical groups still releasing albums. The fact that most radio stations (Or at least the ones in my area) don't play them is a testament to the shear ignorance of the mass of listeners (I nver listen to the radio.) Whatever is popular plays, even if the bands have little talent or integrity.The Dropkick murphys, with their seamless infusion of aggressive rock and tradtional irish music, are one of the premier rock bacnd out there today. Their music and their lyrics are both entertaing and insightful. The unbelievable talent they exude is absolutely unparalleled. They take rock from the music videos and arena to the level of the working man, where the real music fans are.
Highly recommend! Top Ten band.

I bought this Cd around the time it came out... and I'm glad I did! Let me clarify this now, they aren't the Pogues, and they're not some other band, but they know how to make music! Do or Die shows Dropkick Murphys' style of signing about the working man's life and hardships (which is prevalent in all of their CDs). If you're going to have a party and everyone (or just you) likes punk, I would highly recommend this CD! With tracks such as Fightstarter Karaoke, Caught in a Jar, and Finnegan's Wake, you can't go wrong! They're CD The Gang's All Here is also a very good album. You may not like DKM the first time you hear them, but if you listen to them enough, you get a real addiction to it (If you don't the first time). this is one of the greatest oi!/punk cd i've ever heard.i got it around the time it came out and i've almost worn the damn cd out.with songs like do or die,never alone,caught in a jar,memories remain,fightstarter karaoke,barroom hero,finnegan's wake(a old irish classic)boys on the docks(the version is better on the boy's on the docks ep),and a cover of skinhead on the m.b.t.a. you can't go wrong.every song on here is good.they are one of the greatest live bands around.it's too bad that mike left to become a firefighter but i'm glad they got al from another boston oi! band the brusiers to fill in(cheack out the brusiers too)pick up the dropkick's ep and new album the gang's all here while yer at it too!!!!-jason harshmanFree Music Review: DROPKICK'S AT THEIR BEST
