Free Music Review: So average, typical and mediocre overall

In a nutshell, the best things about this album are, Sisqo's voice and the song, 5 Steps. Otherwise, this album is just typical R&B with no specialties besides the mentioned. Dru Hill named their group after a park they used to frequent in Baltimore, Maryland, Druid Hill Park. These men are talented, and, while I do appreciate the fact that they all are given a chance to sing lead vocals, Sisqo undisputedly has the best and strongest vocals. In fact, I feel that he is one of (if not the best) vocalists of our generation. This album's subject matter is simple: love, loss of love and, naturally, sex.
The first single from this album was "Tell Me." It took me quite some time to like this song, but I like it, probably because they are from the Maryland area (where I live) and the radio stations basically beat us over the head with the song. "Love's Train" was a job well done by the group. I love this song, the lyrics and the melody. Dru Hill made a nice effort with this one. "In My Bed" was released as a single. This is another song I don't particularly like. The best thing about this song is the lyrics because what they are saying happens all of the time. Let's face it, cheating is as much apart of a relationship as a relationship itself these days. "Nothing to Prove", "Satisfied", and "Do You Believe" are all weak songs overall. "Satisfied", though, is easily the worst song on the album. It's a sex song, but a very weak one. Why didn't the executive production use his head and omit this mess?
Sad to say, when I was listening to this album, I was anxious for it to end. The only reason I listened all the way through is so I could provide Amazon with this review. Skip this LP and just download 5 Steps.

On the singles "Tell Me" and "In My Bed," the vocals not only blend flawlessly into an intricate harmony scheme but also link up perfectly with the booming bass beats. On both songs, Mark "Sisqo" Andrews's raw-edged, full-throttle gospel singing dominates the foreground, but it's his three bandmates' inventive harmonies that distinguish the song from hundreds of similar bedroom ballads. The group members cowrote five of the 14 tracks on their debut album, and group member Tamir "Nokio" Ruffin coproduced four of them, including such Stevie Wonder-ful imitations as "April Showers" and "All Alone."
