Free Music Review: Let your struggle be worth the fight

Dry Kill Logic have truly stepped up their game for this release, Of Vengeance And Violence. Dead And Dreaming really built upon The Darker Side Of Nonsense and added some great melodies. But on Of Vengeance And Violence the heavy parts are blistering and the melodic parts are so much more sincere. As much as I hate to admit it, if Dry Kill Logic didn't change and evolve a lot with this release, while it will still have been good I'm sure, it wouldn't have come close to this release.
Remember Lost on Dead And Dreaming? Yeah, well if you didn't love that song you probably won't be terribly impressed with this CD. Cliff's vocals have changed quite a bit, seeing his screams get a lot deeper, his singing a lot better, he's just an all around great frontman. As for the band? Guitar solos, memorable riffs, and pounding double bass drums only make for a more mature sound. As is the case with prior releases, the lyrics still play a big part and are still very relateable.
I'll be the first to admit that previous releases suffered from the 'nu metal' schtick of becoming worn after a while. On Of Vengeance and Violence however, DKL really separates themselves from that label. Take Dead Mans Eyes for example, possibly the heaviest song offered, it's obvious that it'll be easy to listen to that song for years to come without it getting dull. Other standout songs include My Dying Heart which comes out in a fury after the build-up from L5 (Prologue). From Victim To Killer opens with a great guitar melody and from there it's just pummelling. Kingdom Of The Blind is one of the two ballads featured, though this acts as more of a heavy song based on melody. Breaking The Broken is another in your face song with a memorable Hatebreed-esque chorus. Then there's the closer, In Memoria Di. Much like the previous closing tracks this is performed acousticly and shows off Cliff's excellent very melodic singing.
My favorite songs are My Dying Heart, Caught In The Storm, The Innocence of Genius, Kingdom Of The Blind, and Dead Mans Eyes. This was the furthest thing from what I was expecting DKL to put out. Yes they've gotten increasingly more and more heavy with each new CD but this is a big leap forward. Of Vengeance And Violence definitely goes into the running for best CD of the year in my mind and if they can capture even the tiniest bit of the intensity in this CD when they tour, that's sure to make for one hell of a show.
