Free Music Notes for Duets: Music from the Motion Picture

Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack
Hit: 4 Stars

While the practice of actors releasing records is not uncommon, it is unusual for an entire cast of virtual non-singers, with the exception of Huey Lewis, to actually record an album for said cast's soundtrack album. It's even more surprising that it actually works out quite well. First, 'Cruisin'--not only does Huey Lewis provide his usual impeccable work, but Gwyneth Paltrow pulls off a great vocal, possessing quite a lovely voice to boot. She also does a great job with Babyface on (Just My) Imagination, proving that not all actresses lack vocal skills(paging Jennifer Lopez, anyone?). Her take on 'Bette Davis' Eyes' is also a keeper, if just a little different vocally than the original. Maria Bello also aquits herself nicely on 'I Can't Make You Love Me' and 'Sweet Dreams', hard to do considering the originals are somewhat definitive versions. Overall, a great package.

Free Music Review: DUETS is a DELIGHT!
Hit: 4 Stars

The Movie DUETS is a splendid movie that was sorely underrated at the box office. Great performances all around, esp. from Paul Giamatti(sp?) & Andre Braugher...When they sing "Try A Little Tenderness", they light up the screen. I knew I'd like this movie when I saw the previews. Yes, it does lag in some parts, but it has more than enough laughs & genuinely touching moments to make up for it. If U can't catch the movie in theaters, rent the video/DVD as soon as it comes out. The soundtrack itself is great relaxing music that'll have you singing along with the classics covered in the movie. My fave is Gweneth Paltrow & Babyface singing, "Just My Imagination". DUETS makes you remember why we love music they way we do...BUY IT!!!

Free Music Review: Duets: wonderful mood music
Hit: 4 Stars

When you need to relax and drift into another place, put on Duets. There are many things to like about the soundtrack-Huey Lewis of course being one. It's good to hear his husky, up-tempo voice particularly in Feeling Alright. I enjoyed his duet with Gwyneth Paltrow and looked forward to what would be yet to come. Maria Bello unfortunately didn't match up particularly when singing one of Annie Lennox's signature pieces-you can't hear that song without hearing and feeling the energy from Annie. Free Bird was transforming, can't wait to see the movie and where all this music fits in. Duets like the soundtrack to Sleepless in Seattle will be heard throughout the house on those occasions when we want to smile and enjoy the day.

Free Music Review: And She Sings TOO!!
Hit: 4 Stars

Great Job Gwyneth! When I initially preordered the soundtrack, there was mention of her doing 4 songs. It's too bad there were only three. "Bette Davis Eyes" was terrific and she kept right up there with Huey Lewis and Babyface (which is no small fete) for her duets. I can only hope she puts together a Duets II. Maria Bello did okay with "I Can't Make You Love Me" although I must say I like the original artist better as well as the version sung by Martha Byrne (actress from As the World Turns - who would have been a great choice for this movie)on her CD. The CD ends too fast. Can't wait to see the movie - of course that's where my fixation for Scott Speedman comes in.

Free Music Review: Don't forget the best
Hit: 4 Stars

I have read the reviews and most of them touched on the Gweneth and Maria Bello aspects. But, can anyone honestly say that they don't have tears just streaming during the rendetion of Freebird? That was a wonderful recording of the song and I am still enjoying it now. I also want to say that yes the Huey and Gweneth storyline was interesting and also one dimensional. The Scott and Maria storyline had a little more going for it, but, it was the Paul and Andre storyline that made me love the movie. Sorry, but there it is. A great combination. One of my favorite lines in the whole movie is where Paul says to Andre " You can get cigarettes there" and off they go.
