Free Music Notes for RockferryFree Music Review: A soundtrack for summer Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is a welcome surprise. Was in London six weeks and kept seeing it on the shelves, got home and finally bought it (WEAK DOLLAR). It's now my soundtrack for summer. Duffy sings with depth and the sound reminds me of soul classics from the 60s. Find myself humming along and spirits lifted by the life and energy on the recording. All tracks bring something, but "Warwick Avenue" perfectly captures a moment in time in London. It's good to have an artist to listen to where you don't worry if the next headline will be news of her death (Amy Winehouse). Every track on the CD is memorable and catchy. Smart, smart music...
Free Music Review: I liked this SO MUCH I shared it. Hit: 5 Stars
Remember the late 60s? The James Bond lead songs sung by great women and the tube amplifier are things I am reminded of by Duffy. Maybe some people won't like this is a retro R&B style and that over half the songs are that 60s you-done-me-wrong thing. I didn't care. Duffy has STYLE and a great sound. The guitarist plays slow and clean reminding me of Eric Clapton but better. I LIKED THIS SO MUCH I bought several for our friends for Christmas. SO far everyone loved this CD. Don't wait now. Get your own if you don't have it yet. Thank you Duffy. This is my favorite album over the last several years.
Free Music Review: Duffy's Debut A Winner Hit: 5 Stars
Duffy's debut CD Rockferry continues the British retro-soul movement found in the music of Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse, and she carves her own niche with soulful, expressive vocals, wonderful musical arrangements that harken back to 60's Motown, and lyrics and themes that were around in the 60s and are timeless.
Songs like the smash hit "Mercy," " Warwick Avenue," "Stepping Stone," "Distant Dreamer," and the rest prove that Duffy is no flash in the pan or merely a sales gimmick. There is style and substance here, and we should be able to look for more great music from this young Welsh lass.
Free Music Review: Beautiful Hit: 5 Stars
I had never heard of Duffy until a couple of days ago when I heard Stepping Stone whilst listening to Radio 2 online here in the USA. Yes I know I am a dinasour! I fell in love with her voice and immediately purchased Rockferry. I am not wise enough to enter into an educated criticism of the CD or make comparisons with other singers. Enough to say this is a beautiful CD. Duffy has an amazing voice and the songs are beautifully arranged, I love the soaring string sections. Duffy is from Neffyn in North Wales a place I know well. What a contrast her life will show from there!
Free Music Review: Amazing Talent Hit: 5 Stars
I first saw Duffy on SNL and was immediately fascinated by her vocal style.
Finally, I picked up this cd, and it's one of those rare cds where all tracks are good. I love to listen to this woman sing!
Duffy isn't just talented when it comes to vocal range, she knows how to work her voice like an instrument - and she does an excellent job.
Since I'm not reserving the five stars for the 'best cd ever', I'm giving this cd five stars for being superb. Anyone who appreciates this music style will not regret buying Rockferry.
