THIS ALBUM IS INCREDIBLY GREAT. ANYONE WHO LISTENS TO THIS GREAT ALBUM WILL QUICKLY SEE WHY DURAN DURAN ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS IN HISTORY, AND ARE TIMELESS. If you don't already own this album, and even if you do--you have to buy it. If you are a Duran fan and you don't know Anyone Out There and Friends of Mine you are missing out. I found this CD when I was visiting England years ago and I couldn't believe I had been missing out on these songs (now I can hear them how they were meant to be heard). This whole CD has a sound all its own--with a real Indian-inspired flare (the instruments are interesting and create and awesome sound). Friends of Mine, Anyone Out There, Night Boat, Sound of Thunder and an awesome version of Careless Memories. Don't even hesitate--just buy it!Free Music Review: their best

this is without a doubt the best debut album from any band -ever!full of classics such as "girls on film", "planet Earth", "careless memories". the thing with duran duran that i find interesting is that their singles aren't always the best songs off their albums. case in point, "Anyone out there", "friends of Mine", "to the shore".these three songs i think are of the best on this album. and the reissue of this album is much better because, like the other reviewer said-is there something i should know has no buisness on this album. it just doesnt fit.

The s/t debut is a landmark recording. Yeaha, it sounds like the 1980's...the best for part of the early 80's. Anyone Out There, Friends Of Mine, Careless Memories, Friends Of Mine and of course Girls On Film define the New Romantic era way past what Japan or Roxy Music could have ever done. I am not really a huge Duran Duran fan, but this album opened the gates for newer bands like VHS or BETA, The Killers, and The Bravery - all bands that have made splashes some 20 years later. If Duran Duran's career started at Rio, their success would have been quite different to a lot of people. A+ Recording.Free Music Review: One of the best!

I remember buying this album when it first came out in 1981 and being thrilled at how fantastic it was. What can I say, after 22 years it still excites me! I subsequently bought Rio & Seven & The Ragged Tiger when they came out all those years ago, and they too equalled the debut album for great songs and excellent production and have given me some fond memories. This is a fantastic album, and the remastering does a good job of refreshing the sound making it sound a lot clearer and more powerful (I think).
