Free Music Notes for LibertyFree Music Review: A music trifle or parfait, if you like Hit: 4 Stars
Two words for the has-been cynics: John Travolta. :-D DD very much deserve their comeback - their creative intelligence is highly underrated.Duran have always created their music with a telescope. The problem is, some music listeners live in the present or worse, the DD past. DD is not Hungry Like the Wolf anymore. Ordinary World proved that, and they've come an even longer way since 1993. I bought this ten years after its release, having absolutely fallen in love with the very cheeky "Serious" on the DVD. Like all DD albums, this is built to a theme - the hardness of LA amid the heat of Summer. let that be your guide. "My Antartica" is also a pleasant surprise, very James-Bondish, cool as ice and wearing a mask that barely conceals its restrained passion. But that's only a small slice of "Liberty". It's a music trifle or parfait - several layers, each one very different.
Free Music Review: Pleasant Surprise Hit: 4 Stars
It is a funny thing to listen to critics, for you never know when what they say is out of bias or actual, non-pastisan critique. Yes, the album cover and booklet are cheesy, but the music is hard to deny. 'Serious' is on a par with "Ordinary World' in terms of quality, as is the song 'Antarctica'. They are both smooth & well written. 'Liberty' is a seductive song, with a rare Simon Le Bon singing role in a low, minor key in a lead, as opposed to a background voice. 'Venice Drowning''s lyrics are some of the best since 'The Chauffer'. There are some clunkers: 'Hothead' where D2 tries to be political, but it does not fit well. Tracks 7-9 are largely forgettable, but that should not stop a person from buying and enjoying the superior songs on this album.
Free Music Review: a good album, not a bad album Hit: 4 Stars
OK, who in the world thinks this is duran's worst album?"seven and the ragged tiger" is there worst, period."liberty" got blown up by the states!, some reviewing it as a rap album! HOW?only one hit single, "violence of summer", which is a weak single, but excellent tracks from 2-7, including "serious", maybe there best? the later part of the album is Very different after "read my lips", not to say t's bad, but a big change in sound and is hard to listen to in a entire siting.listen to this a dozen times and you will like it more han just OK.
Free Music Review: Gives you hope but makes you cry anyway ... Hit: 4 Stars
The beauty of the song "Serious" is worth the price of the CD .. god, every time I hear that song it takes me back to 1990 ... when everything was wonderful ... I was 18, and barely in the Army, and this song was the most wonderful song to have in your Walkman during a dull pink late summer sunset with the light fading beyond the horizon while you were tired from an exhausting day and still dressed in sweaty camouflage fatigues and walking back to your barracks from the PX after buying laundry soap and black Kiwi shoe polish and you knew that you could never go home again ...
Free Music Review: DD's most underrated album. Hit: 4 Stars
I rediscovered this album a couple years ago after a nearly a ten year gap and was surprised how strong some of the tracks still are. For me the standout track is 'First Impression' simply as it's the fastest and most rocking track the band ever did. Violence of Summer and the title track are very easy to get into, but there's less obvious tracks that grew on me after several listens - Venice Drowning and Downtown being good examples.Liberty is about 50-50 hit and miss, but the songs that do hit home are some of the best and most underrated of their whole back catalogue.
