Free Music Notes for NotoriousFree Music Review: Funky Stuff Hit: 4 Stars
Ok, so it doesn't have the hooks that their earlier stuff has and it isn't as strong as the stuff they are doing now - but its a solid album. The melodies are great and I challenge anyone to sit still while listening to the title track. Its a funkier Duran, and totally dance-worthy, but also manages to leave you feeling soothed. "Winter Marches On" is a bit out of place on thise album as it sounds more like something from Rhodes' and LeBon's project, "Arcadia", but it remains one of my favorites with its haunting beauty. Simon LeBon shows a lot of versatility on this album, and John Taylor proves again that he is possibly one of the most underrated musicians out there. Nick Rhodes - well, he pulls it all together in his Wizard-of-Oz-man-behind-the-curtain way that he always does. All in all, not my absolute favorite Duran Duran, but still makes regular rotations through my CD player.
Free Music Review: Show some love for Notorious Hit: 4 Stars
All I have to say is if you don't like Duran Duran, don't listen to them or try to review an album of theirs. I dislike R.E.M., so you know what I don't do? That's right, listen to their music or try to critic their work. Obviously, these Duran Duran haters who put it upon themselves to trash a great album, really just like to hear the sound of their own voices, or in this case, the content of their written word. Personally, Duran Duran is my favorite band and I will love them until the end of time. I loved the Notorious album. Vertigo, Skin Trade, and Proposition my favorite songs on the album but every song is pretty awesome. I also like how every song on the album sounded different and not like the cookie cutter pop that you get in today's cds. Every Duran Duran fan should take a look at this album. It is defintely worth it!
Free Music Review: New Producer, New(ish) Band Hit: 4 Stars
A bit of a shock for old Duranies when this one came out, but it's held up well. Credit Nile Rogers on production chores (as well as a bit of guitar) for picking up any slack. The horn arrangements keep the album an interesting listen all the way through. Especially notable are "Proposition", "Vertigo" and the title track. The lyrics are a bit weak, but the lack of a lyric sheet should help you forget all about that. Enjoyable.
Free Music Review: great album. Hit: 4 Stars
Although They've had a lot of great singles,I've always thought this was Duran Duran's best overall album, from the beautiful "Winter Marches On" to the catchy Notorious to the rockin' Hold Me. American Science,I think,is the best of the bunch perhaps. If you like the other 80's DD,you're sure to enjot this.
