Free Music Review: The cool of Duran Duran

When you watch the dvd you realize the band was excited to try a new path and revist their club roots. I think the duran fans really let them down when they failed to suport this album. I find it hard to believe true fans wouldn't have found enough songs to make it worth the purchase. Just a symbolic knod to keep tying to make more albums and not make them all the same. This cd wasn't for everyone but compare it to Pop Trash and Liberty and you'll realize even behind the sometimes to much electronics this is a true effort on their part. I love this album because I'm a true pop music and dance fan since the late 70's. I think the Duran base needs to get over Rio and embrace this albumsforward approch, it's fun!I think the band was behind this cd until they recieved the sales numbers. The dvd shows they were having a good time.Later we hear John Taylor saying the band told their backers this style was a bad idea.This album has variety and in a word is cool. Skin divers and nite Runner I guess is just to young for it's rocking chair 40's crowd but I refuse to be so boring.The young crowd may not have embraced this cd but this is not their band. Maybe if they had made a complete dance cd like Madonna made they would have captured this crowd.I think the track Tempted stands up to any Madonna dance tracks. It's amazing! This album is cool to cool for some but Duran fans who failed to suport this cd from the start don't know what their missing.A chance to embrace variety to embrace the style art andcool of Duran Duran.

By the time you reach track eight, the sizzling instrumental "Tricked Out," the effect is so pronounced you can't be sure whose chocolate got into whose peanut butter. But you do know this, and with more certainty than you once placed in the power of the "Hungry Like the Wolf" video to get you through your teen-age day: Massacre is one hot record. Timbaland, the brilliant knob-twister behind Timberlake's FutureSex/Love Sounds, as well as his protegé, Danja, imbue it with buoyancy and way-past-midnight moodiness; on a couple of tracks, most notably "Skin Divers," which includes a short rap verse, Timbaland pitches in on vocals, and on a couple of others, he taps Timberlake to help out. That the contributions of that tag-team of hitmakers take nothing away from the tightness and characteristic chic of the band--that they enhance the hypnotic sheen of Duran Duran, rather than subjugate it--makes a certain sense. After all, if Timberlake brought sexy back, it had probably only been missing since Duran Duran's mid-80s heyday. --Tammy La Gorce
