Free Music Review: Outstanding!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is such a fantastic record! All the great elements we've come to love about Duran Duran are there once again and yet, everything sounds fresh and alive. Beautiful melodys, rich synth-scapes, crisp rhythm, driving bass grooves, and perfect vocal harmonies are all there once again in a collection of new songs that are very easy on the ears. My personal favorite tracks are:

1. The Valley- This opener is probably not what you would expect but it is great fun to listen to as it develops from a simple synth-riff into a complicated and catchy production. I love the very "present sounding" bass solo...its very different from what we've heard before. Background vocals are amazing.
2. Falling Down- Simply beautiful...right up there with "Save a Prayer" as one of their finest ballads.
3. Box Full O'Honey- A nice acoustic oriented number where Simon impresses once again with his remarkable melodic gift.
4.Zoom In - I saw someone bagging on this tune earlier which mystifies me. To those that don't enjoy it...try listening this way. Listen to the chorus each time it comes by. It goes from a single line, to a unison line, to a harmonized line, to a more dramatically harmonized line and so on. The dissonance in the chorus near the end of the tune is remarkable.

One reviewer noted that "Tricked Out" had kind of a "Munsters" sound to it. I have to agree...I thought it sounded kind of like "Scooby Doo" so there must be something to it. Even still, I enjoy the track.

Well done guys! Now get back to the studio and make us another one!

Free Music Review: Enduring Talent!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Perhaps I am a little late with this review, yet I just dicovered this little gem last summer and it has finally revealed its worth! It is priceless. I have been buying Duran albumns since 1982. They just keep getting better. The problem with music reviews is time. Most of the bad reviews were posted within a month of the records release. It is obviously, something that should be savored. These people who post negative reviews should delete them or revise them.

This disc is dark even for the "Durans". Most of their work has various criticism of the world we live on. This one sums up the very culture that has swallowed itself. Sort of like "Saturn eating his children". Why does Justin Timberlake have to be on every one's record? I feel the track he wrote is the weakest! He is just a footnote for the theme of the record! Commercialism, hype, tabloids, and paparazzi. Need I say more?

Enter a band that has been around within those flashbulbs for years. At least they look great in it! I am one of those rare male Duran fans who like the music, no matter who is in the band. There are a few tracks that could be skipped. Yet the good ones, may be some of the best the band has ever offered! Basically the second half of the recording is flawless from "Tempted" on!

Frightning, electronic dance tracks infest this classic "Duran" fare. I particularly love "She's Too Much". It is the brightest moment on the disc. Indeed, as the music industry grinds to a halt, Duran Duan may be the "Last Man Standing"!

Free Music Review: Duran Duran - Still Relevent in 2007
Hit: 5 Stars

I am shocked at some of the negative reviews for Red Carpet Massacre. I have been a die-hard Duran fan since first seeing "Planet Earth" on MTV WAY back in the day. I've stuck by them thru good times (their Beatle-esque popularity in the early 80s) and not so good times (less than stellar record sales, band members coming and going). I own every CD they've ever released, box sets, DVDs, you name it, I have it when it comes to Duran. Do I love everything they've ever recorded? No. I must say tho, that I believe that Red Carpet Massacre is one of their best CDs. Almost every track is addictive and hypnotic.

What I've always loved about Duran Duran is how they just keep plugging away, they don't give up. They keep recording albums, growing and changing as musicians and taking chances. Not one Duran album sounds like any other. They are all unique and stand on their own merits. The same can be said for Red Carpet Massacre. Songs such as "Falling Down", "Box Full O'Honey" and "She's Too Much" showcase that great, melodic sound that Duran is SO good at. Songs such as "Skin Divers, "Tempted", "Nite Runner", "The Valley" and "Zoom In" are danceable and fun, and Simons voice has never sounded better.

I was nervous when I heard that Justin Timberlake and Timbaland would be working with Duran on this album. My fears disappeared after hearing the CD, its awesome! Duran Duran has proven that they are still relevant in 2007/2008. Wild Boys indeed!

Free Music Review: Buy this Record. It felt like Christmas morning for me.
Hit: 5 Stars

Band members said they were focused on "groove" and "basics" with the bass and drums but I say this album is more about keeping it simple with everything. Sharp, precise and clean are words that come to mind along with A+ hooks. And I don't care how old he gets, Simon continues to shine. Great performances by the lead vocalist forge a modern day Duran Duran sound with the Timbaland/Timberlake team vocals clearly not being overkill. Duran Duran's Nelly Furtado influences are apparent on track 10 "She's Too Much". The mix engineers kept this recording dry and I mean that in a good way. Overboard on effects is not the case here. The only downside for 'Red Carpet Massacre' is there has been a lot of competition on the airwaves worldwide in '06 and '07 so let's hope these strong tracks at least get recognized with many club remixes soon to come.

A few notes to the biggest Duran Duran fans out there: I get some Liberty flashbacks on the title track #2 sounding a little bit like their canceled 3rd single in 1990 "First Impressions". All kinds of vibes from Big Thing, Astronaut and Pop Trash may hit you at times too. For my last note, if you like The Devils album or hard-core young Duran Duran first album instrumentals then track 8 "Tricked Out" will take you back in time.

Free Music Review: Duran Duran redefined
Hit: 5 Stars

I know some people are selling out with some of the R&B-sounding tracks, but hey're doing the right thing by updating their sound, yet they maintain much of what is familiarly DD. Artists that have longevity continue to sell their albums well because they evolve. They is a good variety of styles, from Rock, to Ballad to R&B. I love 75% of the songs on this CD, which is rare for me, so it's easily 5 stars. Tracks 1-7, 9, and 10.

1. The Valley - Catchy song. Too bad the beat sounds weak.
2. Red Carpet Massacre - Lots of energy, whiny chorus. Raw drums and sax, like Nelly Furtado's "Maneater" sped-up. My 2nd fave song after growing on me.
3. Night Runner - Catchy lyrics. Awesome beat. Sounds like a Justin song.
4. Falling down. Most true to DD sound. Reminds me of "Come Undone"
5. Box Full of Honey - Likable driving-into-the-desert music.
6. Skin Divers - Sick! Had to grow on me, but now is my fave song. This can rock a club.
7. Tempted - Timberland-esque new wave dancey song. Love it!
8. Tricked Out - Boring instrumental.
9. Zoom In - Great eeire rock song.
10. She's Too Much - Lonely beat ballad, like Nelly Furtado's "All Good Things".
11. Dirty Great Monster - Forgettable.
12. Last Man Standing - Forgettable.
