Free Music Notes for Dusty in MemphisFree Music Review: Just a Little Dusty in the morning! Hit: 5 Stars
Having Dusty Springfield music playing is worth getting this wonderful compact disc or any of her music. She was truly a timeless voice of our times. She died prematurely of breast cancer in 1999 not even 60 years old. I bet she's singing in God's choir or heavenly angels leading the chorus to utter perfection. This collection includes the usual Son of a Preacher Man which is considered a gold classic by now. I like Breakfast in Bed, Just a Little Lovin, Willie and Laura Mae. Her voice range was just phenomenal. She could sing country, pop, classic, rock, etc. with a unique stamp on it. Once she sung, nobody else could touch her.
Free Music Review: They Don't Call It A Pop Masterpiece For Nothing Hit: 5 Stars
If you've ever fallen in love, fallen out of love or felt as if you were going through both experiences at the same time, this is the CD for you. No one ever has nor ever will sing as achingly, as sensuously, or as purely about love as our late and sorely-missed Dusty Springfield. She was as particular about what she sang as she was about the way she sang it and the proof is right here. Turn the lights off, light a candle, pour a glass of wine (unless you're in program) and luxuriate in the voice that is absolute proof that there is a God and that He adores good singing. Graci, Dusty. You were my Joe DiMaggio.
Free Music Review: Definitely a classic for the ages Hit: 5 Stars
Dusty in Memphis has a timeless quality to it that is the mark of an album/cd that has become a classic. As evidenced by Shelby Lynn's recent homage to it the material remains fresh and undated. Dusty is in fine vocal form on these selections and the vaunted Memphis rhythm section does her proud. The addition of the numerous additional songs on this extended package make it a must have. I just sent this cd as a gift to a friend who had bought the Shelby Lynn but didn't own Dusty and she was blown away. Any serious pop music fan or collector should (and probably already does) own this.
Free Music Review: What Will it Take for us to Recognize Genius? Hit: 5 Stars
Will it take the death last year of Dusty Springfield at the shockingly young age of 52 for us to finally afford her the place she had deserved for the last forty years? This is Dusty at her best--and her best is wonderful. The opening song (just a little lovin') is sensuality at its best. Other highlights include "In the Land of Make Believe" and "No Easy Way Down." Yet there are so many good songs here that you can't go wrong. We don't need Tarantino to bring back the memory of this wonderful singer. Listen for yourself. You won't be disappointed
Free Music Review: What a voice! What a classic! Hit: 5 Stars
The selection of songs is strongly R&B. Aretha Franklin's producers produced the original record. The Memphis Cats provide backup vocals. A couple of the songs didn't ring true for me, but the majority of the music was divine.
In the liner notes, it says that Carole King considered Dusty to be the premier singer of her songs. And wonderfully enough, this CD has Dusty singing "You Have a Friend," previously unreleased. This song was recorded before James Taylor made it a hit. Having this recording on the CD makes up for not having "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me."
