Free Music Notes for Dusty in Memphis

Free Music Review: Luminous
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one record that is truly classic. Like Carole King's "Tapestry," there is not one bad song on "Dusty in Memphis." The sad shame is that when this came out, it didn't sell very well. This album should have made her a legend and placed her in the same category as someone like Aretha Franklin because it is THAT good. From "Just a Little Lovin'" to "I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore" to "I Can't Make It Alone," this album offers amazingly good performances of great songs. This is well worth the price.

Free Music Review: Perfection Manifest
Hit: 5 Stars

Growing up late in Ms. Springfield's career. I discovered her only through the Pet Shop Boys. I chanced upon "Memphis" recently at a listening station and was totally floored! How could I have missed this breathless voice for so many years? "Memphis" is simply one of the best albums of all time. Yes, that good! Every song is unforgettable and will make you wonder why no one is making music like this--probably because they can't or if they try it comes across like saccharine. Purchasing this album may very well change your life.

Free Music Review: How do you rate perfection?
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an album that defies superlatives; it's just...so GOOD! Dusty sings every song here like it was wrenched from her soul, and those songs are some of the best things she ever had to sing. The pain of "I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore" is as acute in Dusty's reading as it was thirty years ago, and no one, NO ONE, has topped her version of "Son Of A Preacher Man!" The extra tracks here add lustre to the CD, but even without them DUSTY IN MEMPHIS is that rarity: a perfect album. Get it!

Free Music Review: I thought I didn't like this kind of music
Hit: 5 Stars

After growing up listening mostly to all kinds of rock and metal, I just didn't believe I could like music like Dusty's. Let me tell you, I was wrong. This album tops almost anything else I've listened to, and it's not because I suddenly think that my Led Zep and AC/DC albums are crap. The other reviews have all the details, but if you just want to know if this stuff is good, the answer is yes.

Free Music Review: The Most Thrilling Pop Re-Issue of the Decade
Hit: 5 Stars

Everything there is to say about this album has just about been said, so here's my plug: Buy this album for any reason, but especially for the brilliant bonus track: "What Do You Do When Love Dies". This track alone should have guaranteed Dusty a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Thank you Rhino Records for your devotion to one of the best pop vocalists of the century!
