Free Music Review: all cried out.
Hit: 5 Stars

dusty is gone, but her legacy remains. an prolific pop/soul singer, it would be impossible to account for all of her vocal successes on one compilation. _the very best of dusty springfield_, however, does do a superb job of representing many of the faces of a multi-faceted artist. very few people comprehend the musical genius that was dusty springfield and this album does a good job of uncovering a small portion of it. much more than a pop balladeer, dusty springfield is often credited with beginning the british invasion by opening britain's nightclubs to performers such as martha & the vandellas, mary wells and the supremes. an avid fan of the r&b-infused pop music being churned out in berry gordy's music-making factory, springfield possessed a soulfulness that won her the respect of peers and critics, and ocassionally confused fans. her appreciation of the motown sound is apparent on gems like "some of your lovin'", "losing you" and "give me time". "son of a preacher man" represents the height of her success with the american-made album, _dusty in memphis_, while several bacharach/david hits hint at her stature as a pop icon and her infatuation with dionne warwick. as we were reminded by her 90s collaberation with fellow musicians and fans, the pet shop boys, the world is a much richer place for having been graced with the presence of dusty springfield.

Free Music Review: a beautiful introduction to the music of Dusty Springfield......
Hit: 5 Stars

I can honestly attest to the title of this review because this album was my introduction to British vocalist Dusty Springfield's impressive body of work. This was generated during her 1960s and 1970s heyday, as a reigning queen of "Blue Eyed Soul" (blues/soul music interpretated by Caucasian musicians) in the United States and the United Kingdom. For starters, Springfield's voice is incomparable. She has an impeccably expressive, smoky tone and beautiful range that adds life and color to every song she sings here. They include some of her biggest tunes like "I Only Want To Be With You," "The Son of a Preacher Man," and "Wishin' and Hopin'." It also features her cover of "The Look of Love" and lesser known tunes that are just amazing.

Many singers have idolized and attempted to emulate the late, great Dusty Springfield. No one can replicate her distinctive brand of soul/pop/blues interpretations. Yet, her songs and magnificent instrument (her voice) have inspired many to express themselves through the medium of music, and it isn't hard to see why. The spirit definitely moved this extraordinary woman and we all are lucky that her memory lives on in her beautiful songs.

Free Music Review: All the hits plus a buried treasure
Hit: 5 Stars

In my opinion, one of the greatest pleasures of listening to a new CD is the opportunity to find new songs to add to my all-time favorites list. Like many other people, I enjoy looking past the "hits" that everyone loves, and finding my own private "hits". Is there any greater thrill to a music lover than discovering a great new song that just blows you away and makes you push the replay button several times? That is exactly what happened to me with this CD. I bought it because I am a fan of Dusty Springfield, and it was a nice collection of many of her best and most familiar songs. In other words, it was your typical "greatest hits" package. The first 19 songs are classic Dusty Springfield, and have a somewhat similar style that clearly identify them as being from the 1960s. However, buried at the very end of the CD is the true treasure. Track 20 is a song called "Goin' Back", and it does not sound like anything else on the CD. I had never heard this song before, but I immediately fell in love with it. To me, it is Dusty's best vocal performance on the entire CD, and it has a timeless, haunting beauty.

Free Music Review: We've been beautifully blended
Hit: 5 Stars

The '60s/'70s era started its merge of cultures. Professionals such as Dusty better opened our minds (and ears) to the musical talents and interests of others. In effect, she transformed rock and roll to British pop and soul: a beautiful combination! Then a "modern day version," so to speak, of R & B. Definitely a perfectionist in her recordings. One song I especially enjoy, "I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten," has a rhythmicity that keeps you on your toes. Aside from the beat, it's a beautiful tune fluctuating in scale from sharp to minor. "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself" and "What's it Gonna Be?"--these tunes almost bring a comfort to loneliness from the melodic standpoints. This is the only CD I have ever owned on which every tune is one worth listening to...over and over again!

Free Music Review: I Only Want To Listen to Dusty!
Hit: 5 Stars

Dusty Springfield O.B.E. was not even 60 years old when she died. I knew she was special when she appeared in the Pet Shop Boys video which seems like yesterday. Her voice was simply a great musical instrument. This compact disc was my first but not my last. It has her classic hits and some new ones that you feel like you heard it for the first time. Rest in peace, Dusty, we still miss you! Her songs here remind us of what we lost. Her songs like Wishin and Hopin have been remade by other singers but it doesn't have the same appeal that it does here with Dusty. Her voice was a unique musical instrument that she used wisely. I like the picture of her on the compact disc and there is a brief biography of her.
