Free Music Review: "A Long Way Home" is worth the trip
Hit: 5 Stars

Dwight Yoakam's latest offering, "A Long Way Home" is a return to true form for Bakersfield's favorite rambler. Boasting some of his catchiest hooks since "This Time", A Long Way Home delivers the goods for fans of his patented honky rockin' country and one of the most varied for beginners. "Things Change" is a classic Dwight hurtin' tune, with the lyrics showing his sense of humor and his sense of loss. "Yet to Succeed" is more brilliant work, sounding like classic country, but with Pete Anderson's usual production polish, there's something sparkling inside the simple melody and twang. And speaking of polish, there's a sort of second version of the already great "Only want You More" at the end of the disc that's just gotta be heard to be believed. Classic work from a talented guy.

Free Music Review: Country Noir
Hit: 5 Stars

After 32 years of living, nothing sounds better to me than Dwight Yoakam. I have musical tastes which run from opera to punk rock, and Dwight is king of the hill. His last 4 albums represent MASTERPIECES of modern pop music. Classic film noir would be an excellent video representation of his songs. This most recent album, Long Way Home, is equal to his best. I particularly love "Yet to Succeed" and "Traveler's Lantern", but the whole record is a gem.

I saw Dwight in concert this past weekend, and only 4,000 people showed up (which represented about 30% capacity) so I guess I could surmise that much of the world either isn't aware of this genius or doesn't care. Now that's real sad...

Free Music Review: A Little Different but still spectacularry Dwight
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is a little more "rockin'" or "jammin" country than Dwight's previous releases, more in the direction of previous hits like "Little Sister" or "Suspicious Minds". Like those, these showcase Dwight's admiration for Elvis. However, only Dwight could write and perform songs that are different but still country, and he does so here with more style and feeling than many of today's other big name country superstars. If you're in the mood for something a little bit different, play Dwight's "A Long Way Home." It stands among his best.

Free Music Review: I'm a fan
Hit: 5 Stars

A Long Way Home I pretty much like everything Dwight does, so this is a somewhat biased review. If you are also a fan, you will enjoy this CD. I would not recommend this CD, however, if you are looking to purchase your first Dwight Yoakam CD. For a great Dwight introduction, I would suggest "If There Was a Way," "Just Looking for a Hit," or "This Time."

Free Music Review: Overlooked Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

A great artist should be judged by their Body of Work, and this is the case with Dwight Yoakam. If you're a Dwight fan, and you don't own this Gem, buy it now. If you're a New fan, this disc, and many others from this gifted songwriter, will be a great addition to your collection.
Like his Idol Buck Owens, Dwight goes his own way, and if you want Real Country music, this guy's the Real Deal.
