Free Music Notes for Eddie & The Cruisers - SoundtrackFree Music Review: Let's get on with the music... Hit: 5 StarsSpring, 1964- Eddie and the Cruisers are a great new band from New Jersey. They have a hit album, massive radio airplay, and lots of expensive deals. Everything was perfect within the band. Or was it? Behind all the publicity and success, fights between band members and the death of their saxaphone player make tensions arise within the group. After Eddie and the Cruisers recorded their next groundbreaking and visual album titled "A Season In Hell" they took it to Satin Records for approval. When the record company refused to sell the album therefore ending the band, it drove the lead singer Eddie Wilson (Michael Pare) over the edge. After he left the recording studio, he drove his car off of a bridge and was never seen again. He was presumed dead although his body was never found. Now it is 1983, and renewed interest and new popularity of the band starts a reporter to thinking: Is Eddie Wilson still alive? With this question, she pursues surviving members of Eddie and the Cruisers, including Frank "Wordman" Ridgeway (Tom Berenger), songwriter and piano player of the band. Apparently, the master tapes from "A Season In Hell" were checked out from Satin Records the day after Eddie Wilson's car went off the bridge, and the band members homes have been ransacked in search of the missing tapes. Could it be a crazed fan, a serious collector... or Eddie Wilson himself?I have been fascinated by this movie and it's sequel since my father introduced them to me when I was very young. I loved Michael Pare and Tom Berenger's flawless performances, but what I loved most was the music. The real stars, the musicmakers of Eddie and the Cruisers are John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. The band consists of John Cafferty on lead vocals and guitar, Michael "Tunes" Antunes on saxophone, Gary Gramolini on guitar, Kenny Jo Silva on drums, Robert Nicholas Cotoia on piano and Pat Lupo on bass. This band wrote and performed most of the music on this soundtrack. This band is often labeled as Bruce Springsteen rip-offs but I think that they mix classic 60's music with 80's style plus a style of their own. The whole album is fantastic from the piano interlude to the now-classic "On The Dark Side" to the haunting "Season In Hell" that ends in an explosion of percussion that oddly sounds just like a car crash. I was fortunate enough to find and purchase the Volcano Records CD re-issue that includes the once-lost tracks "Tender Years" and "Wild Summer Nights." Many reviewers here at amazon.com gave this album a bad review due to these songs being discluded from the album. Apparently, most versions of this album ommitted these songs over legal copyright reasons. But on the Volcano Records release, they are back and better than ever. I cannot urge you enough to try and find that particular version of this album. The once-missing songs are essentials, especially "Tender Years" which is a landmark song in the film. The sequel to this movie is another great movie. "Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives!" is about Eddie Wilson trying to live a normal life without being discovered. Satin Records has discovered "Mystery Tapes" from Eddie Wilson that featured him singing with new and unknown musicians. The record company, in an effort to make more money, is releasing these songs one at a time as singles to get as much cash as they can. Eddie works in construction now and is constantly annoyed and disturbed by his songs still playing on the air and the record company capitalizing and making money off of his apparent death. One day, Eddie meets a beautiful painter who wants to paint his portrait, and they eventually fall in love. Eddie Wilson, with the help of a saxophone player and a young, cocky guitar player, form a new band and start having concerts again, but Eddie is still afraid to reveal his true identity. Will the world know his secret? Although "Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives!" is a great movie and soundtrack, they will never live up to the classic status of the original "Eddie and the Cruisers." This soundtrack will surely one day join the ranks with 'Saturday Night Fever" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" as one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. So what are you waiting for? Buy it... RIGHT NOW! You will not be disappointed.
Free Music Review: TENDER YEARS AND WILD SUMMER NIGHTS ARE BACK! Hit: 5 StarsI owned this on cassette in my younger days. After it finally wore out I never replaced it due to Tender Years and Wild Summer Nights being omitted. To my surprise I was browsing through a Borders location last week and found the soundtrack to be re-released with all original tracks. If Amazon wants to sell more copies they better drop the original and start selling the Volcano release.
Free Music Review: do not call this the soundtrack Hit: 1 Starswell, i was going to replace my original copy but this version just wont do it From the way it sounds you are losing alot of sales because of the missing songs let us know if we are ever going to be able to get the real sountrack and not a bogus one
Free Music Review: TENDER YEARS.....WHERE IS IT?????!!!!!!!!! Hit: 4 StarsI used to own this soundtrack back in the 80's. With VH-1 showing "Eddie and the Cruisers" as of late, it prompted me to buy the soundtrack again, but no "Tender Years?" That song is one of the greatest ballads ever recorded, bar none. Why isn't it on the soundtrack? Why is it so damn hard to find?????
