Free Music Review: We Need A Little Piaf Right Now Hit: 5 StarsListening to Edith Piaf is always good for whatever is ailing you. Having recently seen in the theatre the new movie about her, I needed a little more Piaf right now. (The soundtrack uses her voice of course as only a fool would attempt to sing her songs in the movie.) This CD contains many of her best-known songs although I missed "Les Trois Cloches," one of my favorites.
The orchestrations are lush, the piano is exquisite ("Le Vieux Piano"), and Piaf is the only singer I can call to mind who convinces me that the accordion is a musical instrument. "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" as always will put chills on your spine. "Mon Dieu" is beautiful beyond words. Eighteen selections are included on this CD. Unfortunately there are no liner notes; only the song titles and the composers are listed.
Piaf's voice is not always pretty, but it is always passionate and electrifying. She was one of a kind. There will never be another singer quite like her.
Free Music Review: A haunting voice from WW2 era. Hit: 5 StarsI bought this as a present for my girlfriend. Edith Piaf has a very haunting voice. You'll recognize a lot of her music from WW2 movies.
Free Music Review: The more you listen, the more you love Hit: 5 StarsI have been a fan of Edith Piaf for about 15 years when I first "discovered" her. Although I have been to visit her grave in Paris some time ago, for some strange reason I had not personally purchased her music until now. The more I listen to this CD, the more fascinated I have become - her voice and the sheer power of it is so poigniant! Listening to her while driving my convertible on a lovely summer evening is just the best. I have purchased this CD to send to my son who is in the military, a multiple time Iraq veteran and recently commissioned officer - he speaks fluent French and I have told him that altho I know he will understand the words much better than I do, there is no mistaking the sentiment and meaning of every song she sings. I highly recommend this CD!
