Free Music Notes for Back RoomFree Music Review: Remarkable Hit: 5 Stars
I had heard of this band through the ITunes song of the week; but I never cared enough to download the song. However I came across this CD in a store and although I didn't have enough money to buy it; I listened to brief clips of the songs. The melodies were hauntingly beautiful and the lyrics were so poetic.
As a poet myself, I find that many "musicians" have neglected writing "poetically beautiful lyrics". Much of music has desolved to cliched-love or angsty-loss.
The Editors may be "angsty" but they do it exceptionably well. Their song "All Sparks" is laconic and brief but is so deep and beautiful. The line, "You burn like a bouncing cigarette" sends shivers down my spine. The words are absolutely remarkable.
The themes are also brilliant. "Lights" is such a wonderful song because it's not about 'love' or 'you left me'. The lyrics are sung with such passion and vigor.
This band is comparable to the absolutely amazing artists such as the Arctic Monkeys, Hard-Fi, Kaiser Chiefs, James Blunt, Magic Numbers and, yes, for all you "American-techno-junkies" She Wants Revenge. This CD is a must-own. If you don't own it you should buy it tonight.
Free Music Review: One of the best albums of 2005 Hit: 5 Stars
Look out Interpol, Editors have come out swinging. "Back Room" is a solid debut album, quite possibly one of the best albums of the year. In the past few years that has seen an uprising in post punk/nu wave band, Editors have come out and set the perfect example of how to make dark love songs that make you wanna dance.
Right of, you notice the likeness of Tom's voice to that of Ian Curtis. But once you get past that you'll notice that he has his own identity as he crafts beautiful, meaningful songs without any "nah nahs" or "hey heys". Accompanied by swirling guitars, thumping bass lines and heart pounding drums, These English blokes create music that will actually capture your attention. In my opinion, the best track is "All Sparks" which brings me back to 1985. The drums on this track and heavy and almost made me question if a live drummer was used. The lyrics, although a bit negative, are simply amazing.
In all, "Back Room" is a ray of light that has been long overdue and with I hope they're able to continue with this formula. If your a fan of Interpol, Depeche Mode or even Placebo, This is a must have for your collection.
Free Music Review: People are fragile . . . Hit: 5 Stars
Interpol are good but Editors are *great*. Their songs tug at my heart and make me want to cry for loves lost in the past - I don't know why but something about this album catches me in my throat and I feel the tears begin to prick behind my eyelids. I was once fantastically in love with a man who introduced me to the Chameleons - I suppose that Editors is the closest I have heard to the type of music that anchors me to that particularly strong emotion. I can't describe this album with the words that it deserves - please listen to it and don't compare it to anyone else; if you know Interpol already, Editors may be too 'samey' to you. If you like Editors and want some more (slightly second rate) of the same, try Interpol. Either way, enjoy.
Free Music Review: Dark & Dynamic Hit: 5 Stars
Catchy hooks, like Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights - except this singer has got another five levels of intensity in his voice. The opening track "Lights" will take no prisoners. "Bullets" is just outrageous. The whole thing is beyond listenable.
The comparisons are accurate, but make no mistake The Editors make some of their colleagues seem a little more cheerful, respectfully. And I would guess the Echo & The Bunnymen similarity is based upon their second lp (my favorite) Heaven Up Here. Joy Division is given, and they build an intensity parallel to The Decline Of British Sea Power.
Free Music Review: Outstanding Hit: 5 Stars
I Hope This Album gets plenty of air play in the States. There is a revival in the Uk Music Scene at the moment with the Brit Press Going Potty over The Arctic Monkeys. The Arctics are very good but they have put a smokescreen over the Brilliance of this Band. The Editors are a class act with a class debut album. It all depends if people bother to give them a go.The Uk Music Scene is back,I Predict A Riot.
