Free Music Review: Good, but by no means Hirschfelder

Being that Amazon was unable to ship the CD, I picked it up on I tunes. I found the soundtrack to the first 'Elizabeth' with music written by David Hirschfelder and containing many well known pieces by earlier composers to be one of my endearing favorite film soundtracks in recent years. In comparison, the work of Rahman and Armstrong on 'The Golden Age' is considerably less impressive. I have to admit that I did like the soundtrack somewhat, but it was no where near the quality of Hirschfelder's work. The music created for this film seemed more appropriate for a TV-movie rather than for an epic film. It lacked the quasi-period appeal of Hirschfelder's music and the absolute power of timeless pieces by Mozart and Elgar. Instead, the 'Golden Age' composers opt for short stylistic tracks that seemed almost disingenuous to what they are supposed to convey. Overall, if you are considering this soundtrack, it is worth a listen. If you are wavering, pick up the soundtrack to the first 'Elizabeth' film instead.
