Free Music Notes for Ellis IslandFree Music Review: Worth the Wait Hit: 5 Stars
It's been a long wait, but the cd is worth it. Fans of the Irish Tenors will not be disappointed in the sweet music offered here. While I enjoy Ronan Tynan and Finbar Wright, it's Anthony Kearns who shines the brightest here. From the clarion opening of Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears, Anthony sings with a purity and richness of tone that is sensational. Love Thee Dearest and The Croppy Boy showcase his gift. There are familiar favorites here, My Wild Irish Rose and the Rose of Tralee by Ronan, as well as some far less famliar to the American public, i.e. the two medleys (one in Irish!). All of it is highly enjoyable, although I do have a suggestion for those who like Eric Bogle's music. Ronan's version of the Green Fields of France is pleasant, but for emotional impact buy John McDermott's cd Remembrance. For that matter, it'd be great to hear John singing with the tenors again. If you're looking for something you'll enjoy many times, this is a perfect purchase. If you don't have the rest of the collection, get those performances, too. The videos and DVD are outstanding! And if you drive someone crazy by playing them over and over, so what? What a way to go!
Free Music Review: Perfection...cubed Hit: 5 Stars
This trio, which might have become just a TV marketing executive's version of a parlor trick and evaporated after a year or so, shows amazing strength in this album, bringing to life a collection of traditonal Irish tunes, contemporary favorites, and patriotic tributes. More than either of their two "Live from..." albums, THIS is the perfect introduction to the Irish Tenors. Their song selections are poignant stories set to music, the arrangements by Frank McNamara are lush but not overpowering, and most of all, the voices of these three men are perfection itself. Fans of the two previous albums will be happy to know that this is a studio recording (no interruptions for applause) and also includes an insert with lyrics (although, unfortunately, no translation of the Irish songs). The Irish Tenors are here to stay, and this album is just the beginning swell of their next wave of popularity. Gift idea? Ride the wave and be the one to introduce your friends to this trio through "Ellis Island".
Free Music Review: Lame Hit: 5 Stars
I just finished reading a review???? by one Eric Werts. To say the least he isn't very charitable in his opinion of Ronan Tynan. He is one in a million who thinks that way. He could read some of the beautiful reviews that are right here, by some very beautiful people. Personally, I really do enjoy listening to Ronan Tynan, and my taste is not all in my mouth.!!! And of course there is Anthony and Finbar. Both of them are a joy to listen to as well. And when the three of them sing together, there is only what can be described as a MOST JOYFUL SOUND. !! And I bet that 99% of the buyers (TENORS LOVERS ) feel the same as I do.KEEP IT UP GUYS, YOU'RE GREAT. Your #1 FAN who has a ticket to your Toronto meet in June. 5 minutes after the ticket office opened I have reserved TWO different seats so I'm sure that one of them will be PERFECT.!!!! Again, I'm your #1 FAN.....Joan Way NEW ADDRESS IF MR WERTS IS LOOKING FOR A KNOCK-DOWN, DRAG-OUT ( of opinions, of course ) is www.sonsofmine@hotmail.com .
Free Music Review: BETTER THAN EVER !!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I watched the PBS special four times and all the songs are fabulous. The newest version of DANNY BOY is VERY good, especially with the piano only. But, I think I still like the "BELFAST" version best, because it was the wildest. And with Ronan's little prayer (??)(JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH !!!)at the intro to the song, added a little unexpected spark. I'm glad I found the CD because it is so much better and I can't wait for the video to arrive. Ronan looks great and sounds even better. Finbar has more charm than ever. And Anthony is a beautiful as ever. But when you put them all together it's M A G I C. THEY CAN MAKE YOU LAUGH AND EVEN WHEN ONE IS CRYING, ONE FEELS LIKE TAPPING A FOOT TO THE SOUNDS OF "COURTIN' IN THE KITCHEN" ETC. I listen to my new CD for hours each day. GREAT - GREAT - GREAT My new address is www.sonsofmine@hotmail.com if there is a way to pass it on to the IRISH TENORS ?????? FROM THEIR #1 FAN. JOAN WAY
Free Music Review: Phenominal / Glorious / Joyful Hit: 5 Stars
I must have been the buyer of the first copy of this CD, and then I got the video and the tape. Now I'm searching for the DVD. It is still not available in my area, and I'm still waiting for it. From the first moment I heard this CD I knew it was their finest effort. The voices are just glorious ( as usual ) and they are a joy to listen to. Anthony's LOVE THEE DEAREST, & MACUSHLA are just examples of the magic of his voice. Finbar's FORTY SHADES OF GREEN & SLIEVENAMON are just two of his beautiful songs. And then there is Ronan Tynan !!!!! Who would not enjoy the passionate emotions of THE GREEN FIELDS OF FRANCE (WILLY MCBRIDE) & MY WILD IRISH ROSE. I have the tape, video and CD of this concert, and will have the DVD as soon as it's on the market. You will be glad you did, because those voices will take you out of this world and into one of pure listening joy. Again, the Tenor's #1 Fan,,,,,Joan Way
