Free Music Notes for Elton John - Greatest Hits 1970-2002Free Music Review: Is the Guy on Disc One the Same Guy on Disc Two? Hit: 5 StarsElton John is a great piano player, one of the best. If you are an average fan, this is for you. The packaging of this CD set is nice, and the booklet is great!
Disc one is absolutly great! Every song is a great Elton John gem.
Disc two is another story. Elton has so many great songs, why put out a CD of the songs from when he was NOT at his peak. You could have filled that CD with other great 70s gems.
Now, the first six songs, and the last songs on disc two are very good and deserve to be there, but nothing else does. The other 10 songs are not good at all. They are all really slow and boring, not like Elton at all.
All in all, wortrh it just for the great disc one!
Free Music Review: From what I can tell, Disc 1 should have been 2 discs. Hit: 3 StarsI'm an old Elton John / Bernie Taupin fan. That time was Elton's most creative period, and where the most hits came out (both on AM and FM radio). Disc 1 has a lot of great hits, but has a lot missing (including entire albums). On a minor point, there is nothing from Empty Sky (this is OK - it wasn't that great of an album, but should have been represented by something). On a major point, nothing came from (the incredibly great) Tumbleweed Connection. That album had (at least) 4 great hits (Amoreena, My Father's Gun, Country Comfort, and Burn Down The Mission). With those 2 omissions, lets go through the rest of the John / Taupin library.
Elton John (Your Song album) - Where's Take Me To The Pilot?
Honkey Chateau - Is it just me, or didn't anyone else think that Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters was a great song
Don't Shoot Me - Was there something wrong with Elderberry Wine?
Yellow Brick Road - The greatest omissions were Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding, and I've Seen That Movie Too.
Caribou - Pinky was missing. Not to mention the hard rocking Stinker.
Capt. Famtastic - What happened to the title track?
Rock Of The Westies - I can't believe they left the Yell Help Medley out.
All other albums were well represented (although, if a 3 disc set was being made, I would have added the songs Madman Across The Water, and Can I Put You On (from the Friends soundtrack - which wasn't represented at all).
I have not purchased this album, but from what I can make of the reviews, there seems to be much ado about very little (at least where disc 1 is concerned). Then again, maybe it's just me. I didn't pay much attention to Reg after he and Taupin went separate ways. As far as I can tell, the second disc is fine the way it is (although, I might have added Return To Paradise).
Others may disagree, but this would have been better as a 3 disc set.
Free Music Review: Amazing! Hit: 5 StarsI simply LOVE this album. Elton John is a phenomenal artist. His lyrical flow soothes my soul. This album is definitely my comfort music when I'm sad, and my fun music when I'm happy. I pop in my cd while I'm driving down the road and it feels as though I'm taking a stroll down memory lane. These songs fill my heart with wonderful memories and I find myself putting certain songs on repeat. I recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear some good music.
Free Music Review: The Best Elton Collection available today. Hit: 5 StarsThere's no way you can reduce Elton John's career to one cd and do it justice. So we have this beautifully remastered collection of hits on two cds. The first cd is devoted exclusively to Elton John's Greatest Hits from the 1970s. This is all right, because many of Elton's long time fans will agree that this was his most creative and prolific period. You get Bennie and the Jets, Crocodile Rock, Honky Cat, Good bye Yellow Brick Road, Philadelphia Freedom, and much more.
The second cd starts out with a few hits from the 70's, and then covers the 1980s comeback and the 1990s Disney film hits such as "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." It concludes with This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore, which recalls Elton's musical style from the 1970s. It is a fitting closure to a wonderful tour through John's career.
I have two very minor quibbles: One: I would have liked to have seen Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Border Song, Last Song, and Madman Across the Water on here, but I realize that there was no room and that these songs can be readily downloaded off of the Net. Number two: Honky Cat and Saturday Night's All Right For Fighting are presented in slightly edited versions (the songs fade out earlier than their original incarnations).
But these small complaints aside, this is the best collection of Elton you can buy, with the best remastered sound.
Free Music Review: best collection Hit: 5 StarsNot much was left out. This is a great collection of Elton's public and personal hits without buying every album.
