Free Music Notes for Rare MastersFree Music Review: Truly Rare Tracks, Good Recording Hit: 5 Stars
This 2 cd collection contains many unreleased songs; many of which you probably heard on tv, or radio. The first thing I noticed was that it contains the soundtrack from the movie Friends. It also contains Skyline Pigeon. It also has a few versions of songs that were available on other albums, but these are rough initial demos. This includes Grey Seal and Madman Across the Water. You can see how the songs progress from these basic arrangements. Any fan of Elton will enjoy this cd. It has a bunch of mournful ballads, with a few slow rocks songs. It also has a couple of tracks with John Lennon. This is a must-have for the Elton John fan. This album seems to capture some of the best John/Taupin collaboration.
Free Music Review: A must-have for any fan Hit: 5 Stars
As it states in the 24 page booklet, "These Are the Songs that Got Away". These are the songs that never appeared on an Elton studio album. The singles, B-Sides, alternate versions, the "Friends" soundtrack, and a previously unreleased song. The book is very informative with track-by-track notes and loads of photos. The double cd jewel case package comes in a cardboard slipcase. This double set really is a must-have for any true-blue fan of Elton and Bernie. Some of the songs have since been included on the Elton Remasters of his Classic Years as bonus tracks, but there is still plenty that you can't get anywhere else. Recommended.
Free Music Review: Great Companion To Elton's "Classic Albums" Hit: 5 Stars
Though alot of these tracks are included either as bonus tracks on the "Classic Years" series, or on the To Be Continued...box set, it still is a worthhile set.I do think the Friends soundtrack was a bit much, maybe just the stuff with Elton on it. It should have expanded to 1976 and included Snow Queen, the b-side to Don't Go Breaking My Heart. Haven't heard that one in years. Anyways, great set! A+
Free Music Review: HYPNOTIC Hit: 5 Stars
The amazing thing about listening to these Rare Masters by the Master is that although many of these were first songs, like Lady Samantha, I've Been Loving You Baby, and Skyline Pigeon; is how hypnotically catchy they are. Signs of things to come. The best things about these early songs is the purity of EJ's voice. A true instrument on it's own with perfect pitch, tone and incredible range.
