Free Music Notes for Rare MastersFree Music Review: A Great Choice For The E.J. Fan Who Has It All Hit: 3 Stars
Rare Masters is a very interesting listen for someone like me who is the ultimate Elton John fan. At one point or another, I've owned everything Elton's put out, so it's nice to have this double CD of B-sides and unreleased tracks.
If you're unfamiliar with Elton's albums, there are some better choices to start with. I'd suggest, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Madman Across The Water, Rock of the Westies, or even his latest release, The Captain & The Kid, over Rare Masters. That said, if you've worn grooves in your 20 year old LP versions of the above mentioned you can't go wrong with Rare Masters.
Free Music Review: Old friends with Elton John Hit: 3 Stars
I found this album when looking for Elton John's Friends, which I loved in high school. This double CD set has all the Friends tracks, plus other lesser-known songs. I enjoyed most of the tracks, but since they were not bit hits when they came out, I am not familiar with them, and I find that I listen only to the Friends tracks. If you like listening to unusual, 'B-side' tracks, this is a great album, but if like me you are looking for Friends, consider purchasing just the Friends album if you can find it.
Free Music Review: Rare Masters - Elton John Hit: 3 Stars
I wasn't so much interested in the CD as a whole - but was looking to complete my CD collection for certain specific songs ("Sick City", "Friends", "Step Into Christmas", etc.). There are a lot of songs that are worthy of "B" side material on this CD. But I'm okay with that because I have finished my collection off.
Free Music Review: Great for "Friends" album songs, not for much else Hit: 3 Stars
I bought it because it was the only way I knew to get copies of the songs from the old "Friends" album (movie of same name). Don't care for any of the other songs.
Free Music Review: Fans can never be objective... Hit: 2 Stars
From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...it's hard to determine a rating on this box set because although it shows that Elton had great non-album tracks, the best stuff in this box has been added as bonus tracks to his albums. So you probably want to skip this in favor of buying the expanded editions of his early 70's albums.
