Free Music Notes for Aloha From Hawaii - Via SatelliteFree Music Review: Classic Elis Concert Hit: 5 Stars
Allright, I own every single Elvis release on CD up until the end of 2000. These are my thoughts about 'Aloha': I loved this performance the first time I saw it and still do; it's classic Elvis in the 70's. What does this mean: Elvis entertains and thrills his audience with every move of his Tiger-like body and sound of his voice; he is slightly stoned during this performance (yes, it's true), probably was dosed a bit to avoid getting the jitters in the prospect of performing for the world, the video shows this: his eyes looked glazed, his speech rather slow and sometimes slurred. But before you shoot me, this has to be said: although this happened more than once during these concert years, there is not another performer that can pull this off with his audience. Why: because this man is so incredibly charismatic, talented and cool, that's why. If you're The King, you can pull this off, and he does in a grand way. Musically the show is an enjoyable one, with Elvis in great voice, his band sounding great (although some would prefere no strings etc.) and on-cue. Elvis, perhaps not as energetic as 2-3 years earlier, looks slim and tanned (watch the video), is a handsome devil in disguise and the chicks around the stage know it. What makes this show stunning is the following: Elvis clearly felt broken up about his recent seperation (official divorce would follow later in the year of '73) from Priscilla, and couldn't (maybe didn't evn want to) hide it: you can see his torn up emotions during performances like You Gave me a mountain, What now my love, I'll remember you and An American Trilogy. You can see that he's hurt. And that's why this show is so important: because it exposes an honest, vulnerable Elvis who's on top of the world, but still feels alone and blue, there's no facade. This is pure drama, none of his movies even come close. His R&R hits, though still enjoyable, are dashed of with his usual lack of real involvement he showed these tunes in his later years. He just was more into the more grown-up material like the above mentioned, and he is to be praised for this. It could have been easier to just sing the hits and please most of his fans. Instead he dug deep, and interpreted material from a wide range of songwriters with blistering results. He made these songs his own, just like he did with 'That's allright mama', 'One Night' and 'Reconsider baby' many years back. Buy this CD. Elvis Presley was The Memphis Flash, The King of Western Bop, The Hilbilly Kid, The King of Rock 'n Roll, and finally...The King. The King of Western Popular Music, that is.
Free Music Review: HANDSOME ELVIS PRESLEY, IS A VERY TALENTED AWESOME LEGEND! Hit: 5 Stars
Elvis had it all, he was so handsome, and he had a beautiful, remarkable voice, that was as beautiful and awesome as he was! Wow! Eventhough Elvis, was in my parent's generation, I still loved Elvis too! He has always been one of my all-time favorites! I so love his music and style! I have seen no one that can outdo Elvis! If you have ever seen Elvis at this live concert special, on 01/14/73 or seen it on TV, you will know what I mean when I say no one can out do Elvis, the man who became King of Rock and Roll!
I sure wished that I could have seen him perform at this concert on 01/14/73 eventhough ,I was just a young little girl, I would have remembered Elvis! My parents love Elvis, especially my mother! Even my brother, who is younger than me, he loves Elvis and Elvis's music, and the rock and roll music inspired my brother Robin, to become a awesome musican, you should hear my brother play the lead guitar, he can rock the house down and he has opened up for some famous bands and singers, Elvis and rock and roll played a big part in my brother Robin's music and style!
I have seen this special on TV, and it is one of my favorites! Elvis looked so good at this special concert, he can take your breath away, with his good looks, and beautiful, remarkable voice! And I just loved the way he interacted with the audience, and how they interacted with him, it was magic! And I love this music CD, and I HIGHLY recommend it! Some of my favorite songs are the following:
I'LL REMEMBER YOU!-(Oh! It melts my heart!)
YOU GAVE ME A MOUNTAIN!-( I felt like I was climbing the mountain with Elvis.)
BLUE HAWAII/KU-U-I-PO/HAWAIIAN WEDDING SONG/EARLY MORNING RAIN- (these songs made me feel like I was in Hawaii.)
MY WAY-(This song is especially written for Elvis!)
IT'S OVER-(Good song and Elvis!)/SOMETHING-(I loved the girl's high angel voice!)
AN AMERICAN TRILOGY-(This song and music is awesome!)
This is GREAT music, and among my all-time favorites, I highly recommend it! This CD has some awesome muscians, and backup singers in it, and I so loved that (BURTON), on that lead guitar, he is one of the best!
Free Music Review: Elvis at his best .... live in concert! Hit: 5 Stars
This is without a doubt the greatest concert Presley performed. I have heard lots and Presley was the greatest showman, but on this night he shone at his very best.
I think some reviews are harsh, especially the criticism of the short performance of "Hound Dog", which i think is very good, yes it was very short (50 seconds) but this isn't a studio album and Presley had a lot of hit's and it would have been impossible to sing them all, especially in their entirety. As he said when fans were shouting out the names of their favourite songs at this show, Elvis joked "yeah, I'm gonna do 'em, all 429 of 'em , i'll do 'em".
This is the many sides of Elvis captured in Concert. The Country singer ("Welcome to my world", "I can't stop loving you", "I'm so lonesome I could cry"), The religious side ("You gave me a mountain", The R&B Elvis ("Steamroller Blues") and most importantly performances that show him as Rock's true King ("Suspicious Minds", "A Big Hunk O' Love", "Hound Dog", "Long Tall Sally, "Whole lotta Shakin' going on", "Johnny B. Goode", etc).
Both "Burning Love" and "American Trilogy" had been hit's recently just before this show and are included here too.
The show closes with a wonderful version of his 1962 number 1 hit "Can't Help Falling In Love", then Elvis has left the building, however, on this CD we are treated to several bonus tracks that didn't make it onto the original album, that were not actually recorded in a concert (my favourite of these is "Early Morning rain").
Whilst I agree Presley never did an album as good as this again, I think that is mainly due to the fact he died 4 short years after it and it's not an if he didn't have anything more to offer in that time ("Way Down", "Promised Land", "Moody Blue", etc, etc).
Nevertheless this is a collection that captures the worlds greatest live singer at his very best!
Free Music Review: ELVIS' LAST GREAT TRIUMPH Hit: 5 Stars
Simply put, ALOHA never sounded better. This new version leaves the original in the dark ages. The mix is much better overall, and much fuller and spacious. You can actually hear everyone involved on the stage now...clearly. Also gone are the stupid fade outs and edits between songs as on the first disc. The part on this new disc where Elvis tells the crowd (after the band intros) that Jack Lord is in the house, and then he says-"Hawaii Five-O man!" is priceless. All the cover art and liner notes are better, and more fitting and classy. I do think that the guitars could have been brought out slightly more, on the rockers especially. But that's just my opinion, and overall I guess it's just nitpicking. The songs and performances are great.Especially..STEAMROLLER BLUES, BURNING LOVE, MY WAY, AMERICAN TRILOGY, SUSPICIOUS MINDS, SEE SEE RIDER, and YOU GAVE ME A MOUNTAIN. My only peeve here is the same as for most all of his 70's concerts. The way that Elvis just seemed to lose interest in most of his older songs, and the way he just tossed off throwaway versions of them a minute or so long with no real passion, as if he just wanted to get them out of the way. Then he would give everything he had to the newer stuff. Compare his performances of HOUND DOG or BLUE SUEDE SHOES here to the 1968-69 live versions. Nuff said! It just irks me when I hear these later tossoffs, and this applies here as well. Otherwise the whole event and this new and very much improved cd of it overall is FABULOUS, and the KING once again shows the world (literally) why he is the KING. John
Free Music Review: The fire burns brightest before it goes out Hit: 5 Stars
Someone once said that the "fire always burns brighter, before it goes out." and regarding Elvis's career, and the "Aloha From Hawaii" concert, that certainly seems true. This concert was recorded in January of 1973, and is historic because it was the first live event to be broadcast live via satellite to such a large number of people. The number is legendary, approximately 1.5 billion people viewed this concert, and those that watched the concert will remember how good Elvis looked and sounded. Elvis dieted hard for this telecast, dropping approximately 15 lbs. he was also deeply tanned by the Hawaiian sun, like a championship fighter getting ready for his last title defense, Elvis (knowing how historic this event was) "trained" hard for the event and it showed. His voice was simply awesome that evening...what he may have lost in energy and vitality was easily compensated for, by raw power and sheer presence. Highlights of that show were "Steamroller Blues" "I'll Remember You", and a version of "An American Trilogy" which will literally cause goosebumps. This concert is also historic, because it chronicles entertainment's biggest star, on the eve of the twilight of his career. Although other great moments would be added to this storied career for the next 4 1/2 years, they would become less, and less as the years passed on. This concert was able to cement the foundation for a musical legacy that will never be matched. Highly recommended
