Free Music Notes for Elv1s 30 #1 HitsFree Music Review: Elvis for the 21st Century Hit: 5 Stars
I picked up this album the day it was released and even though I already have some of the songs on other albums in my Elvis collection, it was still well worth it. This is an entertainer who had charisma with a capital "C" and it showed in all of his live performances. Whether you're a long-time Elvis fan or if you're just getting to like him thanks to the JXL re-mix of "A Little Less Conversation", this is a must-have for any music collection. Pick it up A.S.A.P.!And just on a personal note from a tried and true Elvis fan. It's one thing not to appreciate Elvis' music. I know not everyone on this planet enjoys the music of the King of Rock 'N' Roll and criticism is to be expected. If everyone liked the same things, ate the same food and dressed the same way this would be a pretty boring place. On the other hand, and this is strictly for Bix (the ignorant, brainless turkey that he happens to be). I have never seen anyone sink so low in an attempt to defame one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century. The fact of the matter is your points are so way off the mark, it's incredibly laughable. Get your facts straight before you go and shoot your mouth off and then keep 'em to yourself because no one cares to hear what you have to say.
Free Music Review: Elvis-This IS The way It's Always Gonna Be! Hit: 5 Stars
Elvis #1. 46 years after his first #1 Billboard Album he rules the charts again from the grave. The controversy about Elvis stealing from the style of Negroes is as strong now as it was nearly 50 years before. In the end, the only thing one can conclude is that he just did it better. Have you ever heard the Big Mama Thornton version of Hounnd Dog? How could he have stolen Jackie Wilson's style, when he didn't have his first hit, Reet Petite, until 1958 while Elvis was in the Army and already the King of the whole wide world? Maybe it was jackie that did the borrowing . . . Elvis was a musical inovator that was influenced by White and Black Baptist Gospel music and his stage antics were those of the wild revival ministers he had watched growing up. He enjoyed Hillbilly-Race-Pop and Mario Lanza and brought it all together with his own distinct sound and style unlike anyone's. Little Richard's music only Rolled, it never Rocked and he just played a jumped up version of Ragtime called Tin Pan Alley or Honkey Tonk. Listen to the Sun Sessions and hear the birth of Rockabilly and Rock & Roll on one album. It is the Rosetta Stone of Rock & Roll and documents the coming of the artist of the century. To this day, there is everyone else and then there's Elvis-Elvis-Elvis.
Free Music Review: The Perfect CD if you can just own one Elvis album Hit: 5 Stars
This is a terrific CD. 31 of Presley's greatest hits are included on this collection. The sound is crisp and pure and the selection of songs is really great. Everything from his early stuff (Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel) to his hits in the early 70's (Burning Love, In the Ghetto) is included. A great example of his gospel prowess, Crying in the Chapel, made the list as did his last #1 hit from this past summer, A Little Less Conversation, which reached hit status after Nike included it in a soccer commercial last year. It is the 31st song on the CD. The songs were re-mastered and you can hear it on this disc. The sound is wonderful with Elvis sounding as good as he ever did. The thing to remember about Presley is not his string of films in the 60's- most of which don't deserve remembering- but his great voice and the power he could bring to a song. He is responsible for moving rock and roll smack into the middle of America. The cuts on this album are representative of his career and though one could argue here and there about some songs that were missed, it still is a great addition to anyone's collection who is an Elvis fan, or just a fan of rock and roll. This CD, much like the Beatles 30 collection, belongs in everyone's music library.
Free Music Review: Always a 5-STAR perfromance Hit: 5 Stars
As you listen to these blockbuster hits, remember that the greatest Elvis tunes are found off the beaten path. Yes these are all tremendous hits, but it is only the threshhold to the Kingdom. Get the album ELVIS IS BACK recorded after he got out of the Army and hear songs like "Reconsider Baby"; "Like a Baby," "How can It be Wrong?"; "Mess of Blues"; "Fever." If you get the '60s box set, you'll hear some real masterpieces like "Edge of Reality,"; "Let Yourself Go"; "Almost In Love"; Stranger In My Hometown"; "Little Friend"; "Long Black Limousine." On the 70s Box set you'll hear "Sound of Your Cry"; "Faded Love"; "My Boy"; "Sylvia"; "Life." There are all sorts of tremendous out takes, like one of Elvis singing "12th Of Never" in a rich Irish tenor, or "Killing Me Softly." Great bootlegs of Elvis concert moments are out there that are just hysterical and even sad, like where he goes on a scatalogical rant against a reporter that wrote that he was strung out. E L V 1 S is ELVIS FOR DUMMIES; it gets you online, but it is only the beginning of a journey that doesn't end.
Free Music Review: Way Cool, Man! Hit: 5 Stars
The sound mix on this new cd is the best I've heard yet from the Elvis Empire. I hope they re-do the whole Elvis catalog with the much improved sound quality. I do have a few complaints though. They should have stuck with the original versions of "Fool Such As I" and "The Wonder of You" and saved the alternate takes for later "Essential Elvis" Cd's. After all, it was the "original" versions that hit #1 and not these "alternate" takes that do not improve upon the original. And though I like "Wooden Heart" on a children's cd, it doesn't belong in this selection. Also, "Crying In The Chapel" is a great song that better suits a gospel selection. What this CD really needs is "I Got Stung", "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" and "Little Sister". Then it would be a 6 Star CD. In regards to the last reviewer who kind of hinted that Elvis stole everything from rock and roll legends, Little Richard and Chuck Berry, I would recommend that he actually listens to this collection. Elvis really doesn't sound anything like these guys. Elvis did credit them and other bluesmen for having an influence on his music, along with Hank Snow, Hank Williams, and Dean Martin. Chuck Berry was influenced by Big Band Music. And the beat goes
