Free Music Notes for Elv1s 30 #1 HitsFree Music Review: KING OF THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD Hit: 5 Stars
...So Elvis Presley has the # 1 CD worldwide?!? As an Elvis fan for over 25 years, I am a bit surprised & completely proud. In other reviews listed here, I have seen Elvis accused of mediocrity & cultural theft----To those who would claim that Elvis's voice was less than stellar, you obviously have not listened to the hours of evidence available on record. As for the "Elvis stole the black man's music" theory, consider this: Elvis was born & raised in the poor South, where "The Blues" were his music, too. He FELT them. He EMPATHIZED with them. He LOVED them.Let us imagine for the moment that the 19 year old Presley was of such a cunning & manipulative mind that he said to himself " I'm going to steal this wonderfully soulful music & make a million!!" Ridiculous.Anyone who subscribes to this way of thought is woefully missinformed & ignorant of Pop Culture & music history. A SHAME. And it makes me sad. I have read names such as Little Richard, Chuck Berry & James Brown (All of whose music I equally love) bandied about as victims of Presley's brilliant musical "heist"....Well, if Elvis Presley was such a "shyster"--- why, upon Presley's death, was none other than the "Godfather Of Soul" James Brown the 1st to arrive at Graceland for the funeral, saying "I've come to see The King!" & then go on to sit by Elvis's casket & cry for an hour????? Because Ol' Elvis was such a theif?!?NO. Because these men had a mutual RESPECT, friendship & ADMIRATION for each other. This is the Elvis, who stated on stage in 1956, before performing a Little Richard song---"This song is by a friend of mine called 'Little Richard'...I've never met him, but he's my friend".Defense Rests. As to the CD itself...I was awestruck by the SOUND...particularly when the stereo masters kicked in. That "God Of Thunder" effect they achieved with these ancient tapes is sometimes breathtaking....like hearing them for the 1st time. My one regret about the collection is that they decided to include these inferior alternate takes of "A Fool Such As I" & "The Wonder Of You". Certainly jarring for those who bought, loved, and expected the original versions.I've long been of the belief that "A Little Less Convrsation" was one of those great "undiscovered" & over-looked Presley gems. Thank God (& JXL!!) that it has finally gotten the recognition it deserves!!! All told, if you're a long time fan like myself & have heard these songs millions of times, or you are just discovering the joys of ELV1S for the 1st time, you will be thrilled by this wonderful collection. A MUST for all REAL music fans!!....Oh yeah...One last thing...PLAY IT LOUD!!!!!
Free Music Review: The King. Hit: 5 Stars
There is no entertainer more famous than Elvis Presley, consider that this man split the history of modern music in two. The underground vibrations of blues, the popular form of country and the classic sense of gospel all came into a revolutionary clash and mingle embodied by Elvis. Without Elvis you don't get The Beatles, Jim Morrison, Aerosmith, Bono, Marilyn Manson or anything called rock n' roll, he embodied what the word was and what the music meant. It is only fitting that The King of Rock N' Roll get a collection polished to have a sound quality better than even the latest U2 release. "30 #1 Hits" pulses, grinds and croons with songs that are forever famous, some have become so deeply etched into the psyche of the world that it is hard sometimes to understand how Elvis changed the world of music. His face and mannerisms have already been converted into the stuff of worldwide parody or the decor of a postage stamp, but that is only testament to the impact of the man who is known by first name alone. This album contains his #1 hits, some are classics we all hear at some point or another in our lives like "Hound Dog," "Heartbreak Hotel" or "It's Now Or Never." The difference is here they have been lovingly polished to a gloss, the sound quality is extremely impressive, never sounding low or dated. Nobody can deny that this is the best-sounding Elvis collection ever released. It is on par with the sound quality of a newly released album. And of course, the music is great. "Can't Help Falling In Love" has to be one of the greatest of all ballads, a wonderfully dreamy expression. "You're The Devil In Disguise" is pure rock n' roll fun with a catchy chorus and memorable production. "Suspicious Minds" remains one of Elvis' best cuts, it's catchy, and good pop fare, but it's also deep and moving with exquisite production. Some of the tracks have reportedly been remixed from the originals, is it a problem? Of course not if you appreciate good music, nothing here feels weak or tampered with. Bettered, yes, ruined, no. Few singers can have such a memorable voice like that of Elvis Presley, his is a deep baritone, rich and full and filled with driven talent. Traces of the vocal influence can be found everywhere from The Doors' "The Crystal Ship" to U2's "With Or Without You." "30 #1 Hits" is a great collection of the 20th century's biggest singer, it has been compared to "The Beatles 1" but let's remember, without the material here, that album wouldn't be around.

Free Music Review: Elvis #1's need 10 stars Hit: 5 Stars
For those of us who have been enjoying the music Elvis left us - this CD is a treat. No matter what some may say, Elvis was unique. He didn't need to "steal" his style, moves or MUSIC from anyone. Presley has affected virtually everyone in the music business in some way. The list of admirers is staggering - everyone from Bing Crosby to Frank Sinatra to John & Paul to Brian Wilson to Ozzy! The music of Elvis Presley has stood the test of time because of ONE thing - Elvis. For the people that are not familiar with Elvis' music, this disc is a wonderful place to start. Yes, the disc has flaws - but only because Elvis had many more # 1 hits in other countries and on other music charts (5 more on the country charts alone). As so many others have written, the sound on this CD is just staggering. This is the definitive Elvis Presley collection. Listening to "Heartbreak Hotel" conjures up images of desperate people walking slowly to their doom . . . not a common theme for early Rock and Roll. The disc then brings you to "Don't be cruel" and "Hound dog". This double-sided hit is not only the biggest selling single of all time; it is also the most played jukebox recording of all time. Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly and many others were an integral part of the revolution we've come to know as "Rock and Roll" - but Elvis Presley was, is and will always be the king. Forget the stupid jokes about the "fat" Elvis, the drugs and the ridiculous movies. Just listen to the music. In the end, that's all that matters. From "Heartbreak Hotel" to "A little less conversation" you will find that Elvis was much more than just a "Rock and Roll" singer. The same cannot be said of Richard, Berry and many other rock originals. Some people contend that because Presley never wrote any of his own music, he does not deserve the praise he continually gets. Does that mean since Bing Crosby didn't write "White Christmas" we should never listen to it again or say Crosby didn't deserve to sell millions of copies of that record? Before anybody did anything - Elvis did everything. For new fans - please do not stop at this CD. The next step is the "Sunrise" CD. You will hear how and where Rock and Roll was born - and how a 19-year-old truck driver from Memphis became the biggest star the world has ever known. Let the detractors have their say - but don't let their negativity dissuade you from finding the truth for yourself. You won't be disappointed!
Free Music Review: A good introduction to the music of Elvis Hit: 5 Stars
This compilation contain 30 tracks that had been number one hits in the pop charts in Britain, America or both, together with the JXL remix of the hitherto obscure A little less conversation, which made the total 31. As others have noted, the remix created a whole new generation of Elvis fans although I had been a fan for many years previously.
The set is presented in approximate chronological order, beginning with his rock'n'roll hits of the fifties including the hard-rocking classics Heartbreak hotel, Hound dog, All shook up and Jailhouse rock along with great ballads like Love me tender.
After a spell in the army, Elvis returned to the music business but he recorded more ballads and his new up-tempo songs didn't rock quite as hard. Some people lost interest in his music at this point but I enjoy music from all periods in his career. His sixties music was different from his earlier rock'n'roll but was, if anything, even more successful, at least to begin with. The classic songs from the early sixties include It's now or never, Are you lonesome tonight, Marie's the name of his latest flame, Can't help falling in love and Devil in disguise.
As the sixties progressed, Elvis became an actor. Although some of his soundtrack music was brilliant, Elvis lost his way as far as hit singles were concerned. In the mid-sixties, he topped the UK charts with \crying in the chapel but the sixties were nearly over before Elvis again returned to the high places in the singles charts on a regular basis, although very few reached number one in Britain or America. Suspicious minds and The wonder of you are perhaps the most famous of them. Way down, the last of his original number one hits, was in the charts but not doing much when Elvis died. Within a few days, it shot to number one in Britain. It seemed unthinkable that Elvis would ever again reach number one in the pop charts, but then came that re-mix.
By following the charts strictly, some classic songs such as Blur suede shoes and Always on my mind are omitted while less famous songs such as Too much and A big hunk o love are included. However, all the classics omitted from this collection have been included on another compilation, 2nd to none. You can therefore get all the essential Elvis tracks via these two compilations but even without the other compilation, this is a great introduction to the music of Elvis.
