Free Music Review: ELV1S is still the K1NG
Hit: 5 Stars

This album has most (not all)of ELV1S number 1 hits from US and UK, and includes A Little Less Conversation as a bonus track. While it is not possible to capture every aspect of ELV1S immense talent on a single cd, and no cd can have all of everyone's favourite songs on it, this album does give an excellent view of the genius of the greatest recording artist of all time.

Whether you like rock'n'roll, country, ballads, blues or any variation in between, ELV1S did it, and did it well. From Heartbreak Hotel and Hound Dog, through Jailhouse Rock, Hard Headed Woman, Burning Love and finally Way Down we have ELV1S rocking like no one else could.

Ballads like Love Me Tender and Are You Lonesome Tonight show a different more gentle side to ELV1S. Crying In The Chapel and In The Ghetto show the feeling and passion the the K1NG can put into a song. And then there's It's Now or Never, ELV1S best selling song (over 50,000,000 copies sold worldwide between singles and compilation albums).

All of these songs are timeless as can be seen from the reaction to the chart-topping soundtrack from Disney animated movie Lilo and Stitch which has 5 of these songs in it.

Apart from the excellent selection of songs on this cd (ultimately this selection was chosen by those millions of people who bought the singles) there is a huge bonus in the improved quality of the sound. All these songs have been remastered from origonal tapes and they sound as fresh as if they had just been recorded yesterday. So if you already have ELV1S compilation cd's just compare the sound. You will be pleased.

If you are an ELV1S you must buy this cd. If you are not a fan, listen to this cd. If you have any appreciation for good music you will love it.

Free Music Review: VIVA ELVIS!
Hit: 5 Stars

at 15, i'm probably the youngest Elvis fan in the world. i was first introduced to his music by my dad, but i am now a fan myself and bought this cd for me.
what is great about this cd for younger generations is that it introduces them to the wonder that is Elvis Presley, the greatest entertainer that ever lived (at least this century). Out of the thirty songs here, most of the younger generation will be familiar with about 10, but will soon love the others. for older generations i think it's a good nostalgia trip. it features a good selection of songs, including classics like 'heartbreak hotel', 'hound dog' and 'suspicious minds', which puts gareth gates' cover to shame. it also features some perhaps lesser known ones like 'don't'. the only odd thing is that the novelty track 'wooden heart' is here while 'i want you, i need you, i love you' is absent.
this cd shows how great the influence elvis had on music was (on some tracks, you can hear how some of today's music has evolved from it), and lays to bed any claims by some that elvis 'stole' black music. first of all, you can't 'steal' music, and second of all, no one can say that elvis presley stole anything. there were rock n roll artists before him, in the 40's and early 50's, such as Little Richard, but Elvis was the first one to take it into the mainstream, and the first one to make it what it is today.
most of the songs are from the 50's and early 60's, but there are also strong tracks that came after his 68 comeback special, showcasing elvis' versatality and ability to move with the times - something many artists lack.
overall, this is definitely the reissue of the year, and probably of the decade. there is something for everyone. buy it!

Free Music Review: STILL THE ONE AND ONLY KING OF ROCK N' ROLL !
Hit: 5 Stars

The fidelity and sound are improved and the "king" has never sounded better. This album proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that the poor country boy from Tupelo Mississippi was the "original" and everyone who came after him were "also rans". He took the elements of blues, country, hillbilly and Southern gospel and created a new and unique sound that will never be outdated. Where other singers might have had one or two of the afore mentioned elements, Elvis was the first to combine them all. This album will be a delight to older fans and show the new and younger fans that it was indeed Elvis started the rock n' roll craze. Elvis did not need the hype of electronic soundboard tweeking; overdubbing, multi- tracking, echo chambers and synthesized back up to create great records as do the so called "artists" of today. His early Sun recordings, with just his voice and rhythm back up, are as simple and pure as you can get and they remain "classics". No artist since has had the combination of God given talent: voice, looks, personality, stage presence and charisma that was Elvis Presley. Maybe once or twice in a lifetime does there appear a giant in select fields of music. In pop it was the incomparable Frank Sinatra. In classical music it was Mario Lanza and now the incredible Charlotte Church. In country it was Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline. In rock it was Elvis. Now, twenty five years after his untimely death, he is still setting chart records and winning new fans and admirers. I can only hope that there will be a 2nd remastered album of more of his unmatched million sellers that didn't make it on this album. Long live the "King"!

Free Music Review: 50,000,000 RCA Record Executives Can't Be Wrong
Hit: 5 Stars

Here's my take on the latest entry in the Elvis greatest hits compilation sweepstakes. It is without question the best single-disc collection available. And I'm sure that RCA hopes this has the same kind of sales that the Beatles 2000 release "1" had. [That probably explains the spelling of his name--ELV1S--in the title.] And so far it's working--the album is No. 1 on Billboard's charts the first week of its release.

Is this this the ONLY Elvis you'll ever need? Depends. If you're a casual fan, probably. The serious fan will want it just to get the JXL radio edit remix of 1968's "A Little Less Conversation," whose late addition made it the 31st No. 1 hit of Elvis' career. [Also, do ALL copies include the 12-minute 1960 post-army interview CD that mine did?]

In addition, this updates RCA's 1987 18-track "The Number One Hits" by also including his British No. 1's. Elvis' last U.S. No. 1 was 1969's "Suspicious Minds." But "The Wonder of You" (1970), "Burning Love" (1972) and "Way Down" all hit the top spot in the U.K. In fact, "Way Down" (1976) spent five weeks at No. 1. The other big surprise was 1960's "Wooden Heart," taken from the movie G.I. Blues. [The song was not released as a single in the U.S.]

My only concern is that I hope it's not just old Elvis fans (like me) that are buying this disc. This is music that should transcend generations. And a quick peak at any given week's Billboard chart is evidence enough that today's artists could benefit from a little influence from the king of rock 'n' roll. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Free Music Review: Elvis on Vinyl
Hit: 5 Stars

I always enjoyed listening to Elvis growing up. My parents were shattered when he died in August 1977. Mom especialy enjoyed Elvis and thru that enjoyment I grew up listening to him in our home. This compilation is an excellent package for seasoned fans as well as newcommers to enjoy the magical legacy that Elvis has given us

Except for "Thats All Right", all the goodies are here, including a very timely update of "A little Less Conversation". This is an excellent example of what recent technology can do for dated recordings. It is very easy to listen to, non-fatiguing and warm. I chose to purchase the import version of 1's on vinyl. Sterling sound has done a wonderful job of remastering and cutting this album on 2 LP's. While the cd version is excellent, the Lp version is over the top. This is truly how Elvis should sound. The quality of the vinyl used is excellent; extremely quiet and detailed. It has all the quality of a cd, but the warmth, liquidity and detail that only vinyl can give. If you have a system that includes a turntable, I can't recommend enough that you look for the import and secure it for your collection

Hats off to Ted Jenson and George Marino at Sterling Sound, NY. for this stunning vinyl remaster. Treat youself to these timeless classics on vinyl and hear Elvis the way he was intended to be heard, in all his analog glory!

My Reference system:

VPI Aries Turntable W/ Sumiko Blackbird Cartridge
McIntosh Mx135 pre amp
McIntosh Mc501 Mono Blocks
McIntosh Xrt 30 Loudspeakers

This album will sound excellent on any modest system!!
