Free Music Notes for East Side StoryFree Music Review: Great Debut! Hit: 5 Stars
My friend recommended this album to me because I was talking the junk Emily King does in her debut single "Walk in My Shoes". So I gave it a listen...
What can I say about this album? It is inspiring, genuine, real -- I really like her sincerity, her melodies, her voice. She is going to be hot. I hope ppl don't continue to sleep on her. Just take a chance and buy this album. She's great.
Definite Hits:
1. Walk In My Shoes (the one with Biggie, not the one with Lupe)
2. E Melody - the beat, the melody, the arrangement, too ill...
3. Colorblind - Didnt like at first, but she is singing on a subject that's relevant to her and it has a nice sound.
4. Never Be Lonely
5. You & I
The only song up there I don't listen to 20 times a day is "Business Man".
But one thing to note -- Emily King is definitely a live performer. I thought "Never Be Lonely" was aight, but then I heard her sing on youtube and was completely taken aback. She should make a live/unplugged version of this album.
Free Music Review: Great rare find....under appreciated by label!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This debut release displays the great work of such a wonderful artist but was never really promoted by J Records A&R team??? This CD was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Contemporary album against mostly the heavily played stuff you hear on the bubble gum pop/rap stations. This album has really never got its true justice since nonsense music has the latter over REAL SOUL when it comes down to sales.
Emily's music crosses many genres and if you take a listen you will not be disappointed! It's just sad that the label under promoted such a wonderful CD and artist...but she will come out shining soon!!!
Free Music Review: The Best East side stories ever told!!! Hit: 5 Stars
If you love Teena Marie and are looking for younger and fresher version of her, you must go out and pick up the number one album of 2007, 2008 and so on and so on. This album has that high quality sound that will be played over and over, even in your older years. Each song feels like she's speaking directly to my spirit. I cant not leave my home without hearing tracks 8. "E Melody" and 9. "It was you". However I fell in love with number one(walk in my shoes)the first time I saw it in video. Much love to Emily King or shall I call her the Queen. Her East side Story is definitely felt here on the West side. Peace.
Free Music Review: A new entry into the neo-soul genre Hit: 5 Stars
East Side Story is a delicious combination of jazz, r&b and soul that goes down easy. It's easy to write Emily off as "Alicia Keys with a guitar", but she is so much more than that. IMO, Emily has more in common with Amy Winehouse and Esthero than the smoother, more 70s soul/Stevie Wonder-sounding Keys. Just as the aforementioned women named, Emily King skillfully updates jazz with powerful and relevant lyrics. I really hope she isn't slept on in this limp musical scene.
Free Music Review: Don't Sleep on Ms.King Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great first album that Emily King has created. Its sad that I haven't seen as much promotion for her that I had hoped to see. Hopefully the word will spread about Emily King because she is not to be slept on. Shes a great vocalist and her voice just seems to glide over each track.
