Free Music Review: Eminem is quite honestly the best rap artist in the past 5 years
Hit: 5 Stars

Ever since Eminem was discovered by Dr. Dre in 1999, Eminem has exemplified the rap artists that step ahead of the curve.
The most common thing discussed in rap songs are girls, drugs, and sex; Eminem's lyrics most oftenly consist of much more than this, making him quite honestly the best lyricist ever.

This album is very good composition of his work. Such classics as "Lose Yourself", "Stan", and "Sing for the Moment" have the listener remember just how utterly fantastic his work is.
Contrasting that, as any greatest hit collection with often make people discuss, there are certainly some songs missed (great tracks that were overlooked as being 'hits').

Something I always enjoy other reviewers doing... I'll rate each song 1-10 in the same order as the track list on the CD.

1. Intro... N/A (see the title of the song)
2. Fack... 3/10 (one of the weakest on the CD, and a new song not found on any of Eminem's previous four albums; the beat is good, but the lyrics and the effects are kind of ridiculous in my opinion; still something to laugh at though I suppose; overall something that doesnt deserve to be here)
3. The Way I Am... 9/10 (fantastic song, really powerful lyrics, strong beat and chorus and verses, decent beat, Eminem doing what he does best; overall a strong song to follow an interesting intro)
4. My Name is... 6/10 (compared to his work now its not really up to par, but of course it brings nostalgia to everyone who remembers the song in middle school; as everyone knows the lyrics are decent as is the beat; however objectively its not nearly as strong as some other tracks)
5. Stan... 10/10 (amazing song, the lyrics are memorable beyond all others, the beat is very powerful, the chorus by Dido is amazing and serene contrasting the strength of the verses; really just a song above all others by any rap artist)
6. Lose Yourself... 10/10 (another amazing song, the beat is one of the best Eminem has ever composed, the lyrics are also memorable in their greatness, the chorus is really awesome as well, something anyone who listens to music has and will enjoy after hearing it; right next to Stan tracks 5 and 6 are Eminem's best)
7. Shake That... 8/10 (a really good contrast to the two previous tracks being a good song that aims for dancing and smiles rather than depth of thought, I myself love the verses and chrous done by Nate Dogg as he is a great hook singer; a fun song all around, unfortunately played out by the radio recently; but still good)
8. Sing for the Moment 10/10 (jeez, what an amazing song as well, the lyrics speak truly of Eminem's strength in this aspect of rapping-both controversal and honest, great beat, fanstastic chorus by Aerosmith's Dream On; overall in the top 5 of Eminem's best)
9. Without Me... 9/10 (like Shake That as a really fun song to listen and dance to-as well as being memorable from back in the day, beat is really good and the chrous is fun; overall a classic amongst great hip hop songs)
10. Like Toy Soldiers... 8/10 (really powerful song as well, Eminem doing what he does best again, strong lyrics, beat is ok, good chrous; overall a good fodder song amongst the CD)
11. The Real Slim Shady... 7/10 (furthering the serious/ridiculous pattern since track 6, fun song with a fun beat as well as semi-interesting lyrics, really good chorus; overall a classic from Eminem's arsenal, but not as superb as his stronger songs)
12. Mockingbird... 10/10 (again-like so many before it thus far-an amazing song with really really great lyrics, a great beat, and a chrous that is amazingly memorable, I always lick how the soft beat and chorus complement the strength of the words spoken and sung; overall one of my personal favorites)
13. Guilty Conscience... 5/10 (although I like Dr. Dre a lot for everything he's done-this song is kind of weak, the beat is decent, the lyrics are rather lackluster, and the alternating verses are kind of weak; overall: eh)
14. Cleanin' out my Closet... 7/10 (I personally never considered this song one of Eminem's best-but still decent in a good beat and of course very good lyrics and an ok chorus, I'd pick other Eminem Show tracks over this one at this point, however still ok as it is a song very much recognized by the masses; overall ok)
15. Just Lose It... 9/10 (another comical song, but still fun to listen to as it pokes fun at a lot, the beat is really fun, and the lyrics and chorus are really tight to just laugh to; overall with Without Me as the best of Eminem's more fun songs)
16. When I'm Gone... 10/10 (completing the real CD-excluding the bonus- and its rotate of fun and powerful songs, a really amazing song, again the lyrics prove Eminem is the best, strong chorus and a really tranquil beat just like the others; overall one of the best, a strong (real) conclusion to the CD)
17. Stan... 4/10 (don't get me wrong-I really like this song in its originality- however this take, albeit with another artist equally recognized as great, the piano beat is decent but not quite as good; my biggest upsetting feature is the Elton John factor-I think Dido was so much better as the chorus singer, Elton John's singing seems like he wanted too much creativity with the small hook; overall I really wish this song wasnt here as Stan is amazing enough by itself, however I can't blame too much for this song being here because of its recognition after the 2001 Grammy's 'I think')

Curtain Call Poster

Curtain Call includes three new songs--"Fack," "Shake That" (featuring Nate Dogg) and "When I'm Gone"--both written and produced by Eminem. In addition, the Curtain Call bonus track marks the album premiere of the controversial Eminem-Elton John live duet of "Stan" from the 2001 Grammy Awards presentation.

Executive produced by the nine-time Grammy winner, Curtain Call boasts all five of Eminem's gold and platinum singles to date, from the platinum, Oscar, and two-time Grammy-winning "Lose Yourself" (#1 Pop/#2 Rap) from the 8 Mile soundtrack and platinum "Just Lose It" (#6 Pop/#7 Rap) and "Mockingbird" (#11 Pop/#10 Rap) to the gold "Without Me" (#2 Pop/#5 Rap) and "Like Toy Soldiers" (Top 40 Pop). The other Grammy winners included are "My Name Is" (Top 40 Pop/#10 Rap) and "The Real Slim Shady" (#4 Pop/#7 Rap). Also heard are "The Way I Am" (Top 30 Rap), "Stan" (featuring Dido) (Top 40 R&B/Hip-Hop), "Sing for the Moment" (Top 20 Pop/Rap), "Guilty Conscience" (featuring Dr. Dre), and "Cleanin' Out My Closet" (#4 Pop/#5 Rap).

Curtain Call: The Hits spans contributions from all four of Eminem's major-label solo albums: 1999's quadruple-platinum The Slim Shady LP, 2000's nine-times-platinum The Marshall Mathers LP, 2002's eight-times-platinum The Eminem Show, and 2004's Encore, which is almost five times platinum. The three most recent charted #1 Pop and #1 R&B/Hip-Hop, with his major-label debut #2 Pop and #1 R&B/Hip-Hop. Each of his first three albums also won the Best Rap Album Grammy (Encore will be eligible for the 2006 presentation). Eminem has to date sold more than 65 million albums.
Eminem's four studio albums shattered so many sales records that you might think just about every man, woman and gerbil on the planet already owns a bulk of the songs that make up this greatest hits collection. But Curtain Call presents the perfect opportunity to have another look at the life of Marshall Mathers. Starting out in the vein of the Beastie Boys and Slick Rick, he grafted filthy verses over bubbly nursery rhyme melodies and primitive Casio beats to come up with comical singles like "My Name Is" and "Real Slim Shady." Then angst and reflection set in, resulting in rare moments of vulnerability ("Lose Yourself") and a richer musical experience ("Stan"). The three new tracks reflect the entire spectrum, with "When I'm Gone," a bittersweet goodbye letter, signaling the raw emotion and youthful enthusiasm of his early days have substantially faded, while "Fack" counters that the Detroit rapper still has the dirtiest mouth in the business. --Aidin Vaziri
