Free Music Notes for RelapseFree Music Review: I love it! Hit: 5 Stars
It is worth waiting for the album for past 5 years or so. This cd has lots of great songs that basically tells you his struggles why he has been gone all these years.
Deja Vu
Back in December 07 the media reported that Em was hospitalized for pneumonia, in his song Deja Vu; he explains what happened. That Christmas, you know that whole pneumonia thing," he raps. "It was bologna, was it the methadone, ya think?". He was sick, but it was due to his immune system being weakened by drugs.
Stay wike awake / Same song and Dance
Dark and twisted humor from Em.
"So dark and so cold my friends don't know this other side of me," he raps on "Stay Wide Awake." "There's a monster inside of me, it's quite ugly and it frightens me."
Beautiful
This song is simply, beautiful. It is very deep, Em reveals not only his battle with addiction, but his struggle over whether his run in rap was finished. He's long dodged retirement rumors, but here he raps: "I'm starting to feel distant again, so I decided to pick up this pen/ And try to make an attempt to vent, but I can't admit/ Or come to grips with the fact that I may be done with rap/ I need a new outlet."
My mom / Insane
On "My Mom," Em claims he's a drug addict because his mother is one. And on "Insane," he raps about being abused by his stepfather.
Underground
"Six semen samples, 17 strands of hair/ Found in the back of a van after the shoot with Vanity Fair," he raps. "Hannah Montana prepare/ To elope with a can opener or be cut open like cantaloupe on canopy beds/ And Glad bags, yeah, glad to be back."
Looking at the last track on the album(underground), we can see the Relapse 2 will much sound like his MMLP. Em returns to his "Just Don't Give a Fck" days.
Free Music Review: Probably em's best album Hit: 5 Stars
Listeners who take in this album once and quickly dismiss it aren't doing themselves any favors. Pay attention and you'll be sucked in and realize this is probably Em's best album.
I'm just going to come out here and say it: if your favorite Eminem songs are "Stan" and "Toy Soldiers", then chances are you're totally missing Shady's best volumes of work as far as delivery and music, and probably can't really understand it. While these songs claim videos that are seen on MTV, these are songs that me or anyone who can audibly produce vocaled words could perform. I'm sorry, but he's not even rapping in those songs, he's talking at a medium pace, saying words that happen to rhyme and that you can easily varify. These songs have no thrill.
If some of you're favorite songs include "As the World Turns" and "Role Model" then you'll probably find that raw spit-fire, thrill and knifing flow on Relapse. The beats are sometimes harsh, they're smart, and the production is top-notch. As far as Shady's rap skills, he's doing everything on this new album. He's one of the most diverse and skillful lyricist in the industry and it's all found on Relapse.
And when you have an artist that pours his heart and sole into an album, it makes it even more enjoyable. This album is unlike any rap record I've ever heard, which is hard to say anymore. People who like the dark lyrics will be happy. Hip-hop elitists who love accurate, piercing flow will be happy. All around a win-win. This album is not for pop-rap listeners or club-rap listeners.
Free Music Review: More lyrical genius from Marshall Mathers Hit: 5 Stars
Anyone who is a fan of Eminem...buy this album. His lyrics and rhythm are as clever as ever. In Relapse, he once again proves he is the BEST at: metaphor, puns, and weaving rhymes together that leave his listeners paying attention to every line and hitting the repeat button. And since he is the best at these, he CAN AND DOES SAY ANYTHING to get a rise out of his FANS AND CRITIQUES. After all, isn't that what everyone wants from Slim Shady?
In this album, the beats (mostly supplied by Dr. Dre) are phenomenal, evolved, and complex, and Slim Shady takes his game to the next level. The multies (multiple syllable rhymes) that he brought to the mainstream with his debut are evolved as well and he even more so blurs the fine line between the ease of having a conversation and well thought out rhyme.
Yes, he is still dark and with tracks like Insane and 3am he paints lucid pictures with grotesque rhymes to mess with everyone's mind. Again, it's almost as if he's saying, "My talent is unquestionable so start nodding your head and sing along." Which, is exactly what I found myself doing just like when I was in high school and his first LP hit the market.
Bottom line, I didn't really know where Eminem was going with Encore and where he was headed afterward, but I am a big fan of Relapse. He pushes the envelope further with this album. One thing I have to say, whether you love or hate Em, he IS a genius at his craft. Who knows what's next? I highly recommend this album and I will stay tuned.
Free Music Review: Shady is Back- This is what we wanted Hit: 5 Stars
Eminem is BACK with his genius wordplay, flowing incredibly through each beat with finesse in syllable emphasis. I'm SO glad this album is a departure from Encore. IMO, Encore was going a different direction for Eminem that wouldn't have been good if he kept it up.
To this Day, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show reign supreme as my fav. Eminem albums, both different in MANY regards, but Relapse finds a way to intertwine both. It's leans more to Marshall Mather LP because this is the return of SHADY so it makes sense, but Eminem has also infused his brilliant flow from the Eminem Show. Both combine to make one incredible album.
I do wish there were a few more serious tracks that we've all come to know and love, but I feel he intentionally didn't add them, we all know he can do it, we dont need more proof of it, so maybe this album conceptually was proving that he can still be the "Shady" that attracted so many fans in the first place. So to those who wish for more of the 'serious' Eminem, I'd just say to be patient, I'm sure he will return to that style in the future, afterall, that's how EMINEM raps versus SHADY. Again, this album is SLIM SHADY, respect that. Eminem has his reasons n I personally feel he did the album this way with respect to Big Proof. If you read "The Way I Am" autobiography, you'd get the hint that Slim Shady was created because of Proof, so what better way to dedicate an album for your best friend than what Eminem has done with Relapse? Thanks for reading.
Free Music Review: The Master is back. Hit: 5 Stars
For those of you who think this album is awful... you seriously know nothing. This is without a doubt Em's most personal album and I would argue it's his 2nd best album yet, and definately his most original album. It does sound like a cracked out cartoon...in outer space. But in an amazing way. Nothing will ever top the Marshall Mathers LP because that album was totally epic. But this is a VERY close 2nd. There are tons of reasons why this is a great album but I'll only give a couple.
1.) There's NO catchy singles to bee-bop your heads to. I realize Em probably had a lot of control over his previous work, but this seems like he had TOTAL control. Nobody was breathing down his neck to make a somewhat funny/clean song that can be edited nicely for the radio. Nobody listens to the radio anyway. This album just seems like one that Em did all himself and nobody told him otherwise.
2.)More Em, Less Guests. More Em=me happy. I like D12, but don't like when they have had songs on an Em album in the past. Tons of guest appearances are for people that can't make great music on their own. Simple as that.
In a nutshell, it's another great album by Em and I really do believe this is an album that will weed out the fans from the followers. TRUE fans will love this album but if you just want 16 songs like "The Real Slim Shady" and "Without Me" this is not your album. Can't wait for the other album to drop this year because if this is just a taste, I can't wait for 2nds.
