Free Music Notes for RelapseFree Music Review: Relapse: Eminem (and Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers too) is back. Hit: 5 Stars
Let me get my preferences out of the way first: I love Eminem (including Encore (Deluxe Edition)), Dr. Dre, Tupac, Jay-Z, D12, Biggie, DMX, Busta Rhymes, and Nas.
I think this is the most conceptually complicated album that Eminem has ever released. While I understand that some people have complaints about the (various) accents he has in the album, they each actually mean something, and paying attention to the different characters/aspects of himself they represent is important if you are going to get everything there is to offer out of this album. The references are poignant and pointed, as we have come to expect from Em.
While the music is all solid, some of it is more discordant with the lyrics than has previously been tried by the dynamic duo. I enjoy it, but I can see how someone might not. The highlight for me musically is in "Underground", the outro track on the album (which foreshadows Relapse 2), which changes time signatures for the chorus. It is fantastic.
Overall, this album is wonderful, especially if you aren't afraid of disturbing imagery to make a point, and if you like both traditional musicality and hip hop.
Free Music Review: He is one of the GREATEST!!!.... Hit: 5 Stars
I am definitely a huge fan of Marshall's work! The guy can really tell a story and have you think so hard, you just want more and more. I have listened to Eminem since the Slim Shady LP. To see him progress over these 10 years is truly amazing. I was a fan since day one and he became my favorite rapper after the Marshall Mathers LP. Simply because the way he expresses himself in his music is overwhelming. His first cd is basically an ear grabber. The let you know what he can do as far as rapping for a white guy. He delivered! Second album he told a complete , well articulated story from beginning to end. This is almost what relapse takes me back to. His third was also great for me. Beats, Lyrics, and more personal matters that kept me listening. Great combination's if you ask me. His fourth album had an edge that was politically correct, emotional, and hilarious. Only a few songs were deep, but for the most part is was a fun cd for him to make. Very different after the first three. Now, number five. Raw, dark, and sinister. Complete story's! Beats are unbelievable! Skit's are beyond funny! He knows how to capture an audience. This is not an album, it is a masterpiece! If you are a fan, it doesn't matter what people say, your going to feel this album!
Free Music Review: Back with a bang Hit: 5 Stars
Let's just say I was disappointed with Eminem's previous album, Encore, and was forced to wait far too long for something special, new. Finally it's here. And I couldn't be happier.
For any who were wondering, the old Slim Shady is back. Some of the nastiest, angriest lyrics I've ever heard are here.
Kicking off the album, a disturbing intro, "Mr. West", and to be honest it really suits this CD well. Marshall must have had some serious problems to overcome to make this. Anger oozes from every crevice of this CD.
Dr Dre's influence can really be heard in the beats throughout this album. They're reminiscent of his "2001" album, especially on tracks "My Mom", "Old time's sake", and "Must be ganja".
"Bagpipes from Baghdad" has a completely new sound, and yeah, it's exactly what you think.
The last track, "The Underground", sounds like Eminem's rapping to Nightwish, lol. This track may not be for everyone, but I'm really diggin' it.
Overall, my favorites are My Mom, Hello, Same song and dance, Old Time's Sake, and Underground. This is Shady's old gambit come back to life of drugs, sex, and anger set to some of the hottest beats around.
Free Music Review: HE'S BACK. What's HIs Name Again ... SHADY SHADY. Hit: 5 Stars
Yes, he has finally released this album and yes it is worth the wait. From first listen or even from previewing the songs singly you would not understand or even appreciate the value of each and every song. All the songs fit in to the name of the CD, the Relapse. The CD goes through a bit of what i guess he went through during his time getting over his drug problem. The first set of songs, My Mom, Insane & Bagpipes From Baghdad, are a preview of things we already know about him, His Mother, Himself and Feeling about Mariah Carey and her new husband Nick Cannon. The CD has variety of songs and you have to sit down to really listen to enjoy it.
For those who gave it three or lower ratin, are not being understanding. His is not old Eminem, his Eminem grown up a bit and a little different but still similar in many ways. To all those out there not sure if to get the CD. GET IT and I'm sure you will like it. IT IS GOOD and JOKEY. Can wait for the next one later this year.
My Favorite Songs/ Skits:
Dr. West (Skit)
Bagpipes from Baghdad
Hello
We Made You
Old Time Sake
Deja Vu
Beautiful(BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM)
Crack a Bottle
Steve Berman (Skit)
Underground
Free Music Review: Late Night Horror Flick Hit: 5 Stars
This takes me back to the days when I first heard The Slim Shady LP. I remember how off-the-wall it was and the way it felt like a breath of fresh air. If you can remove the memories of past albums from your mind and listen to this as if it's your first time hearing Eminem, it's almost like you can relive it.
When I first heard Stay Wide Awake, it reminded me of the feeling I got after Role Model made its way through my speakers. It was just different and gripping. The cadence on this track is powerful. The beat is in a death-grip that isn't released until it has been drained when the third and final verse comes to a close.
These are the kind of records that will keep me checking for future releases. They keep me wondering how Relapse 2 will turn out. It's like the result of watching too many late night horror flicks. The way that Wu Tang was influence by those old Kung-Fu screenings. You got the beats/samples along with the themes/lyrics. It's the same concept with a slasher twist. It isn't just the words, it's the music as a whole. Even the skits are dark.
It's good to have Shady back in an actual experience to take you through, instead of just an alter ego to exploit.
